Ferrari Formula 1 team boss Mattia Binotto has to resign, Corriere della Sera newspaper said on its online page on Friday, highlighting chairman John Elkann’s loss of confidence.

A spokesman for Scuderia Ferrari said the company had commented on the speculation.

Binotto, whose contract expires at the end of 2023, and Ferrari are discussing the terms of their early departure, Corriere reported, adding that an announcement is expected soon.

Among the characteristics for Binotto’s replacement, Ferrari chief executive Benedetto Vigna will take over on an interim basis, Corriere said.

Earlier this month, Ferrari described as “totally unfounded” reports in the Italian media, Corriere della Sera, that Binotto would be replaced at the end of the season through Alfa Romeo team principal Frédéric Vasseur, operated through Sauber.

Ferrari won 4 races in 2022, its promise of an early season has fallen due to lack of mechanical reliability, strategy errors and driving errors. Ferrari finished the season in the overall constructors’ standings.

Binotto has spent his entire career at Maranello and was appointed team principal in January 2019, replacing Maurizio Arrivabene.
