Ferrari CEO Says Its EV Might Not Be ‘Quiet’ Like Tesla’s, But It Will Roar With ‘Excitement’

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said the automaker’s next electric car may not be quiet like other electric cars on the road.

“Electric cars are not quiet,” Vigna said Tuesday in an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box. “If you know the technology, you know you can also do a lot of things with electric cars,” he added.

While electric cars, including Teslas, are known to be strangely quiet on the road, the Ferrari boss said his company is running a prototype of its electric car that would be quiet.

He said the Italian company’s electric vehicle would retain the same “unique” pleasure as its other vehicles, known for the noise of their engines and running on classic internal combustion engines.

When asked if Ferrari would market its EVs in the same way as Tesla, Vigna said it would do so differently.

“When we talk about luxury cars like ours, we’re communicating about the emotion we need to convey to our customers, so we’re not communicating about functional cars like the other electric cars you see on the roads,” the Ferrari CEO said. . .

Ferrari plans to start delivering its first all-electric vehicle until the end of 2025, Vigna said last year.

Ferrari was the first automaker to try to incorporate engine noise into its electric vehicle. Both Hyundai and Dodge brought EV models with the option of false engine noises.

“Automakers are responding to some enthusiasts’ remarks that electric cars have no soul,” Ed Kim, president and lead analyst at AutoPacific, an automotive research and consulting firm, told Business Insider.
