LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The name Ferrari is synonymous with luxury, but back in the ’50s, the company was on the brink of collapse. A new movie tells the story of the Italian car and carmaker.
A classic red carpet premiere welcomed the cast and crew of a movie celebrating iconic race cars and a guy celebrating those cars. Set in 1957, a tumultuous year for Enzo Ferrari, it’s a story that director Michael Mann wanted to bring. to the screen for a long time.
“I’ve had the opportunity to do it over the years, but it should have been a lower-budget film. And it had to be done precisely the right way, or done at all,” Mann said.
And it shows. Every scene, every Italian location, every prop- it’s as if you’re transported back in time.
Adam Driver takes the wheel and brings Enzo Ferrari closer to the crowd. It’s not an easy task, as the genuine Enzo Ferrari didn’t like to introduce himself. So Driver had to play the character. However, he gives much of the credit to his director.
“Under Michael’s leadership, he’s incredibly researched and incredibly specific, so he does his homework and is transparent about the story he’s looking to tell,” Driver said.
Also appearing on the red carpet is Penélope Cruz, who plays a central role as Laura, Enzo Ferrari’s wife. And Patrick Dempsey, who managed to combine a dual career as an actor and professional racing driver. He plays pilot Piero Taruffi in the film.
An original film down to the smallest detail, until the end.
