Ferrari has announced the departure of its former chassis technical director Enrico Cardile amid the hypothesis that he would head to Aston Martin.
The 49-year-old, who first joined Ferrari in 2005 as part of its plans for the GT championship, joined its Formula 1 team in 2016 as head of aerodynamics, most recently serving as technical director of the chassis sector.

But his tenure at Ferrari came to an end, with Cardile’s departure confirmed and team principal Fred Vasseur taking over on an interim basis.
“Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that Enrico Cardile is leaving the company, thus relinquishing his position as technical director of the chassis sector,” a Ferrari statement read.
“After almost two decades at Ferrari, Cardile has passed away and therefore, with immediate effect and on an interim basis, the chassis will be overseen through team principal Frederic Vasseur.
“Everyone at Scuderia Ferrari HP thanks Enrico for his hard work over so many years. “
Reports in the Italian media claimed that Cardile would be signing up for rival Aston Martin, and when asked to comment on Cardile’s announced arrival, the Aston Martin spokesperson told PlanetF1. com: “The Aston Martin Aramco F1 team is a very hot task with Lawrence. Stroll’s vision, a next-generation campus and exciting partnerships with Aramco and Honda.
“Many high-level personalities in all areas of the team are connected to the task but we have nothing to announce. “

Speaking to the media, according to PlanetF1. com, after the British Grand Prix, Vasseur asked about the rumours linking Cardile to Aston Martin, but said that “tonight” he stayed at Ferrari, as the meaning of that explanation is now clear.
When asked if Cardile will go to Aston Martin, Vasseur replied: “If Aston Martin needs to talk about something, I’m satisfied with them, but that’s not the case, today he’s part of the organisation and Enrico’s role, he’s the technical director on the chassis side.
Vasseur added: “Tonight he is the technical director of Ferrari.
