Ferrari announces ‘special in preparation’ for Miami Grand Prix

Ferrari continued to tease its unexpected switch to a blue livery for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix.

The Scuderia will unveil a very different-looking SF-24 in Miami, as Ferrari celebrates the historic anniversary of its arrival in the North American market.

2024 marks the 60th anniversary of Ferrari’s marketing in North America, and the team opted to demonstrate a special American-inspired white and blue livery on its cars for the final two races of the 1964 season.

For the Miami Grand Prix, the SF-24 will compete in two other shades of Ferrari blue: Azzurro La Plata and Azzurro Dino.

The livery has yet to be clearly revealed, but Ferrari has teased a bit on social media and, with a new video showing the livery of a road car, presented more clues as to what the car will look like when it takes to the track at the Hard Rock Stadium.

In a video titled “special delivery in preparation” posted on YouTube, Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are informed that they will get two Ferrari 296 GTS, their mid-rear mid-engined two-seater, in two other colors.

Silvia Cavallaro, Ferrari’s head of colours and finishes, is pictured telling Leclerc that he will get the 296 decorated in the Azzurro La Plata scheme (light blue), while Sainz will get the Azzurro Dino (darker blue).

“That sounds great!” Leclerc is seen in the car, while Sainz smiles: “We just have to go to Miami, I can’t wait!”

Azzurro La Plata, Argentina’s lightest shade of blue and national color, closely resembles the colors worn by Ferrari racing legend, two-time F1 world champion Alberto Ascari, while the racing suits later worn by John Surtees, Lorenzo Bandini, Ludovico Scariotti, Chris Amon. and Niki Lauda wore this shade of blue.

Meanwhile, Azzurro Dino, the deepest shade of blue, last worn by Clay Regazzoni in 1974, after which the vintage red synonymous with Ferrari took over.

The reveal of the livery, which will take place in Florida on a date yet to be confirmed, will be part of a series of Ferrari events to celebrate its presence in the United States, starting on April 28 and ending on May 5 with a parade at the Miami Autodrome International Circuit. ahead of the Grand Prix, led by a pair of blue 296 GTS models.

Ferrari recently brought a livery to the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, which also paid homage to an iconic color scheme from its past: red and white. The racing suits of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have also been revamped for this occasion.

The 2024 Miami Grand Prix will mark the third edition of that event, as Ferrari looks to end Red Bull’s Max Verstappen’s unbeaten run at Miami International Autodrome.
