(WXYZ) – The FDA rejected Henry Ford Health System’s request for an emergency hydroxychloroquine authorization for some of the COVID-19 patients.
In a statement, Henry Ford said the resolution had no effect on the ongoing study that hydroxychloroquine is reading as a preventive treatment.
“At the same time, we remain focused on advancing efforts to expand a safe and effective vaccine opposite COVID-19,” said Henry Ford. “We are the only place in Michigan to recruit volunteers in the phase 3 trial of the modern coronavirus vaccine mRNA-1273 and compare its promise as a vaccine candidate. We continue to believe that a safe and effective vaccine is the most productive way to protect other people from this devastating virus.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci in the past called the study on the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19 “defective” in a testimony before a subcommittee in the House.
In response, physical care doctors Henry Ford wrote an open letter, the existing political climate has made any discussion about the drug impossible.
