One user was killed and seven injured after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, the government announced Wednesday.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department sheriff, Kevin McMahill, said at a press conference that a person inside the vehicle was killed and that the other injuries had been reported to him as “minor.” He said police found gasoline canisters and fireworks in the car. He said the incident didn’t appear to pose any further threat to the community.
“We know who rented the truck,” McMahill said. “We are investigating this person, but I am not ready to release the call of any of the other people we are investigating, at least until next of kin are notified and we have 100 percent identification. ”
Jeremy Schwartz, the acting special agent at fault for the FBI’s Las Vegas workplace, said his firm is seeking to “determine whether this was an act of terrorism or not. “
President Joe Biden said Wednesday that authorities were investigating whether there was any connection between the Las Vegas explosion and the New Orleans attack that left at least 15 people dead, including the attacker, on Wednesday morning.
McMahill said the Cybertruck and New Orleans’ attack vehicle were rented by the car-sharing app Turo.
In a page shared on its online page on Wednesday, Turo showed that the two cars had been rented through its service.
“Our acceptance and protection team actively collaborates with law enforcement to provide any data that may be useful for their investigations,” he said.
At a press conference, McMahill described the place of the incident.
“At 8:40 a. m. Las Vegas time, we won an explosion report and a chimney at Trump Towers,” McMahill said. “We were told that a Cybertruck in 2024 stopped at the front of the hotel, and in fact, I can tell you that it stopped at the doors of the glass of the hotel glass.
McMahill said that Cybertruck’s sending bed contained gasoline cans, fuel cartridges and “large mortar fireworks. “
“The fact that it was a cyber truck limited the damage that occurred inside the valet because it caused most of the explosion to go through the truck and out,” McMahill said.
McMahill also thanked the Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, for his survey, specifically through the collection of video sequences of Tesla’s load stations.
McMahill said the Trump Hotel will remain closed for the time being. He said the “vast majority” of other people staying at the Trump Hotel had moved to the Resorts World Las Vegas Hotel.
January 3, 2025: This story has been updated to reflect an explanation of the officials that the dead of the dead previously informed of 15 in the New Orleans attack included the attacker.
