ATLANTA (AP) – Arthur Blank’s motion to draw attention to social injustice has been celebrated through his Atlanta Falcons players.
Blank only hopes the Falcons can continue their efforts without following players from other sports who have moved away from games.
“I’d say I hope that’s not the case,” Blank told the Associated Press on Friday when asked if it would help players retiring from games as a form of social protest. “I’m not saying it’s wrong. Me in nonviolent protests.”
Blank, owner of major League Soccer’s Falcons and Atlanta United, recalled Friday’s recent talks with the late Representative John Lewis of Georgia and former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, who led the civil rights motion with Dr. Martin Luther King.
Blank said Lewis and Young “reminded me separately, individually, that we have come a long way since they were the first disciples, walking to look and feel with Dr. King. But we’re not where we want to be and we want more. focus and have a correct view of those issues. However, either they were very positive about our long-term ability and so did I.
Blank faithful to the bankruptcy of his new e-book “Good Company” to social protest, adding the NFL’s reaction to the San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeling to the national anthem in 2016.
Blank said he agrees with recent statements by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that the league should have supported Kaepernick.
“I think the commissioner has made it very clear that probably understanding The origin of Colin Kaepernick in 2016 isn’t as transparent to us as it is to us now,” Blank said, adding that other NFL owners “feel the same way. Hopefully, and all Americans think, there are injustices that want to be compensated. There is a sense of urgency to move the ball in the field.”
This sense of urgency has become for enthusiasts of almost every game to forget this week. A move introduced through the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks led to additional NBA playoff games and the practices of nine NFL teams postponed on Thursday. WNBA, MLS and Major League Baseball games were also not played. Some school football trainings were also canceled.
Falcon security officer Ricardo Allen, a member of the team’s social justice committee, tells Blank about the right aspect of the challenge a long time ago.
“When all of Colin Kaepernick’s stuff was happening, it was great to see Mr. Blank’s component and not stay with the rest of the other team group,” Allen said earlier this month. “Just for him to take the initiative, and everything we needed, everything we said as players, I can tell them 100 percent that our team supported us and did as productively as possible to get the answers or find a way to get it. the answers.
Falcons defensive finale Steven Means won a similar compliment this week for coach Dan Quinn, who took time off from the team’s educational camp program to enroll in the verbal exchange on social injustice.
“Coaches this time to be valuable,” Means said. “If you have a coach in a position to cancel an assembly or if it’s going to give us the opportunity to take moments off their schedule, it’s big and we’ve got it here and it looks like other groups have it too. I think it’s vital for everyone who’s starting to take that turn.”
The Falcons did not enroll in other groups that canceled the practice this week. Atlanta players say they haven’t made a decision about the moves they’ll make during the season.
The Falcons open their season on September 13 at a house opposite Seattle. Players would probably not bet on the first game or some other game.
The team is already adapting to dramatic changes. Atlanta will have enthusiasts for at least their first two games at home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Blank said there is “a separate possibility” that some enthusiasts will be able to enter Mercedes-Benz Stadium from October. He said he “couldn’t bet” because the pandemic is hard to predict.
“I know you’re looking and there’s no one here,” Blank said of the players, “but I think it’s a step in the right direction. If we behave better, God willing, we may have enthusiasts in this construction.” as soon as possible. “
