Up to 125 Jobs can be created at Lotus Cars after the company announced the transfer of its business from metal and soft structures to a new one in Norwich.
The 12,300 square meter Hurricane Way plant will be changed to a new subset facility to accommodate the manufacture of the extruded and aluminum-glued aluminum chassis for Evora, Exige and Elise Lotus sports cars, as well as the manufacture of Aluminum Factors for Lotus global customers. The installation will also space out metal welding and the manufacture of subframes, suspension factors and other key parts for Lotus cars. These processes are recently underway in Worcester and at the Lotus Cars plant on Vulcan Road, Norwich.

The corporate will also feature Hurricane Way machinery and equipment for the launch of new sports cars.
In a statement, David Hewitt, Executive Director of Operations, Lotus Cars said: “By bringing the aluminium chassis and steel sub-assembly manufacturing businesses together into one facility, we can further improve upon efficiencies and productivity for Lotus manufacturing. Being located close to Lotus’ HQ in Hethel, Norfolk where all Lotus cars are assembled, will also benefit the business as we expand further into the future.”
The New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership and Norwich City Council helped protect the move.
Alan Waters, executive leader of Norwich City Council, said: “Lotus is, in fact, an iconic brand around the world. But here in Norwich, and in the county at large, we have long enjoyed a sense of local pride and ownership thanks to the fact that the company has been founded in other parts of the region for many years.
“The prospect of dozens of new jobs in the pipeline … comes at a welcome time as we continue to combat the effects of the pandemic.”
Lotus Lightweight Structures’ current facility in Worcester will be re-purposed by the freeholder and Lotus will relocate from the facility in May 2021. Worcestershire-based staff will be offered the opportunity to work in Norwich.
