LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Indeed, it’s impressive: Aston Martin’s stunning newest convertible, the DB12 Volante. Six wiry sheet steel figures of a premium British logo that rarely misses a beat when it comes to luxury taste and prestige.
Of course, this is the favorite logo of the world’s most famous secret agent, James Bond. At most, no one thinks of 007 when they see an Aston Martin.
But even if this combination had never happened, the DB12 and other Astons would still have appeal as remarkable super machines, however clever in sound they may seem. The 4. 0-liter twin-turbo V8, jointly developed with Mercedes-AMG, makes all the right noises and develops 671 horsepower. It’s even better to listen to the more sensible on a beautiful sunny day. Sure, the base price of $265,000, but those cars have never been cheap.
If you can, now is a good time to look for a high-end car from the UK. Bentley has just unveiled its new 2025 Continental GT, which, as expected, goes fast and stays put. Before long, it will be noticed parked outdoors at high-end restaurants and resorts around the world, likely attracting the attention of everyone who sees it.
But how will cars like this evolve? Powered cars are evolving and will continue to be replaced in the years and decades to come. And those adjustments will also apply to those high-end and very resistant cars.
Governments around the world are calling for significant carbon footprint discounts. But will exotic vehicles like this go electric?Well, possibly, and only partially. Aston Martin has developed an EV platform, but its launch has been delayed, basically due to a lack of customer interest. Aston plans to limit itself to gasoline.
“As long as we are allowed to make cars with internal combustion engines, we will make them. I think there will be demand, even if it is low,” Chief Executive Lawrence Stroll said earlier this year, speaking to British automobile publication Autocar.
The game plan is to combine its engines (V8 and V12) with plug-in hybrid or PHEV transmissions. It is a way to cross the border between electric power and classic gasoline energy. The new Bentley will first arrive exclusively in PHEV version.
And there’s a new exotic model with a smaller carbon footprint from McLaren. The Artura has just been presented in the form of a Spider with a folding roof to accompany a libertine coupe. Not only is it a plug-in hybrid, but it also has a more fuel-efficient V6 than a V8. Enough strength to fit the look? McLaren has been winning races with Formula 1 V6 hybrid cars for years.
Therefore, there is a long way to go for dream cars to offer flavor and at the same time internal combustion emotions. And this long term seems long. Plenty of time to save or buy a lottery ticket or two.
