Drug bust leads to arrests, seizure of drugs, firearms in an SUV, northeast of El Paso

Three other people were arrested and a brick of cocaine, an AR-15 rifle and a pistol were seized in a drug trafficking investigation in northeast El Paso, police said.

Seizures were made to avoid traffic and raid on the afternoon of June 11 in a space on the 8800 block of Mount Hagan Drive, the sergeant said. Javier Sambrano, spokesman for Crime Stoppers of El Paso.

Sambrano said this week that the investigation arose from an unnamed drug trafficking complaint to Crime Stoppers 4 months earlier.

After obtaining a search warrant, El Paso narcotics police officers confiscated part of a pound of “cocaine brick,” hashish oil, clonazepam pills (a drug for seizures and panic disorder) and part of an ounce of marijuana, Sambrano said.

Jonquez Leontae Mathews, 30, arrested after a traffic prevention in which drugs and an AR-15 rifle were discovered in a white Nissan Rogue driving, police said.

Terrence Tremayne Mathews, 33, and Brianna Nicole Harris, 26, were arrested at the Mount Hagan Drive home. They seized a revolver and more than $5,000, Crime Stoppers said.

Harris, Terrence Mathews and Jonquez Mathews were arrested for manufacturing/delivering a controlled substance, plus 3 drug possession charges, police said. Jonquez Mathews is also accused of illegally using a weapon.

Harris, from the 5300 block of Juliandra Avenue, was released from the El Paso County Jail on June 12 with a general bond of $18,000, according to a crime newspaper.

Jonquez Mathews, from the 5500 block of Ignacio Frias Drive, was released from prison on June 13 with a general bond of $62,300.

Terrence Mathews, from Block 14200 of Ranier Point Drive, released on July 18 under a split bonus of $94,000, according to a crime newspaper.

Crime Stoppers officials reported that they have seen an increase in tips and solved cases compared with last year.

Crime Stoppers won 101 councils sent to police last month, compared to 68 in June 2019, authorities said, enticing greater success on social media.

In June, the tips resulted in 8 arrests, 29 cases were resolved, two weapons were seized, more than $6,600 of drugs were seized, more than $5,500 in assets recovered and $3,250 in rewards, Crime Stoppers reported.

In June 2019, it resulted in 8 arrests, 17 cases solved, drug-free, unarmed or assets recovered and $2350 in prize money.
