Drop in sales of rushed cars in Europe slows, as France posts positive result

The drop in car and SUV sales in Western Europe slowed in June to 24.8%, with a 57.3% decline last month, LMC Automotive said, with France leading the way with positive results.

In June, the annual sales rate in Western Europe was 10.3 million, compared to a genuine profit of 14.29 million last year.

The CMC forecast for 2020 remains unchanged with a contraction of 26%, for a total of 10.62 million.

France surprised with a gain of 1.2% to 234,000 compared to the same month last year. France has recently brought a set of beneficial incentives for the sale of cars. Germany, europe’s largest market, disappointed with a drop of 32.5% to 220,000. Germany also presented a major programme for the sale of cars, but the aid has been directed at electric cars, which still account for only a small proportion of total sales.

Sales in Britain fell 34.9% to 145,000.

“We expect sales rates to continue on their bullish trajectory at the time of the year, in a transparent but asymmetrical recovery,” LMC said in a report.

“In our latest report, we discussed the continued presence of upward threats and really extensive problems for perspective, based on incentive systems and a wave of prospective (coronavirus) instances. With the latest data, the ability to inject life into the automotive sector through government devices is transparent of the French positive result. In terms of the threat of the problem, at no point has the virus wave really affected sales, but this threat is far from being resolved: in the UK, for example, portions of the country have been placed in a localized blockade, underlining the option of extended consequences, at least in some parts of the region,” LMC said.

As a former European auto correspondent for Reuters, I spent a few years writing about the industry. I’m going to get to the exaggeration and arrogance of corporations and find out what those giant corporations are doing. I also like to drive their lovely machines and their modest maxims. I’ll tell you if the generation works too.
