Driver dies after being hit by fleeing cops, Detroit police says

A driving force was killed Friday after being hit by a car that fled authorities in the far west of Detroit, police said.

Officers were on Dale Block 12900 at approximately 1:20 p.m. by a reported kidnapping involving an armed suspect in a target Chrysler 300, investigators said in a statement.

Another patrol car saw a car matching this description accelerating south on West Outer Drive near Plymouth at top speed and activated the lights and siren, according to the statement.

The car was lit with red light at the intersection and collided with a white Honda Odyssey 2000 eastbound in Plymouth, police said.

The 48-year-old driving force rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The Chrysler driver, known as a 19-year-old woman, and a 21-year-old passenger were arrested and treated for life-threatening injuries.

Two other people in the car, a 15-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, were also treated in a hospital for non-fatal injuries.

Anyone is asked to call the Detroit Police Department’s Fatal Squad Unit at (313) 596-2260. An anonymous recommendation can also be sent to Michigan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
