April 5—SHARON — Sharon’s Diehl Hyundai is in the midst of construction on its new dealership at the end of a $6 million project, funded through the city’s American Rescue Plan Act budget, which began with demolition in August 2022.
In the building there is a service section with the most modern equipment and even special devices for operating on vehicles.
“It’s as new as it gets,” general manager Oak Moser said. “It’s great. “
The new Hyundai dealership located at 1251 E. State St. is approximately 3 acres at the corner of East State and Strawbridge Avenue in Sharon’s East Hill. In the past it was the site of the Diehl Ford dealership. During construction, Ford and Hyundai lines were consolidated into what is now the Ford dealership across the street.
The sprawling old building, demolished in 2022, built in 1937 as the Allum-Williams Dodge Plymouth. It became DeForest Buick-Cadillac in 1971 and later served as a dealership under the Baglier and Preston names.
The City of Sharon supported the task with a $250,000 grant that dealers say makes it the most complex Hyundai dealership in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.
“Being part of a network willing to invest in us will motivate us to invest even more in the city’s projects and the network as a whole,” said Matt Diehl, vice president of Diehl, at the time of the grant award.
The dealership will have four car evaluators, adding two rapid evaluators, allowing the public to rate electric vehicles.
“They gave us two that will make you want to blink and charge it,” Moser said. “They rate the car in less than an hour. “
The chargers will be indexed in a special phone app for electric car owners to schedule charging sessions.
Diehl’s after-sales service will be split, with 3 Hyundai mechanics and two Ford mechanics across the street.
The after-sales service even touts a firewall for electric car batteries. If the ambient temperature reaches 145 degrees, a small chain melts and knocks down the firewall for the batteries.
Guests will see more trendy touches in the new construction, with seats with integrated phone chargers and also a special room in the construction. Moser said he believes new construction could attract a build in the number of customers.
The National Association of Automobile Dealers said its studies have shown that any new structure can lead to a 34% increase in business.
Moser said Diehl sold 8 Ford cars last month and 3 on the first day after Hyundai moved into its own building. Moser said this because other people may only now see the Fords.
“I think if we were 10% busier in the new building, that would be great,” Moser said. “That would be the biggest challenge we have. “
