DHL Freight Introduces Electric Semi-Trailers from Mercedes-Benz Trucks

PRESS RELEASE

At the beginning of April, DHL Freight put its first fully electric semi-trailers from Mercedes-Benz Trucks into operation. In the near future, the 300 eActros cars will be used for delivery and distribution transport at the Koblenz and Hagen locations. The circular between the DHL branch and the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kassel, a Daimler Truck site, makes shipping more sustainable on the circular route between the DHL branch and the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kassel. Today, the eActros 300 truck makes carbon-free deliveries to consumers in the Koblenz region. With a maximum weight of 19 tonnes, they are DHL Freight’s first heavy-duty battery-electric semi-trailers in Germany. In line with the Group’s sustainability strategy, it is planned to increase the share of electric cars in the delivery fleet to 60% and that of sustainable fuels within the DHL Group to more than 30%.

“While we insist that the decarbonization of shipping requires the effort of all stakeholders, it is something special when consumers themselves supply the generation to reduce greenhouse fuel emissions. We are very pleased with the partnership with Mercedes-Benz Trucks, which allows both partners to take the next step towards achieving their sustainability goals,” says Dr. Thomas Vogel, CEO of DACH, UK

The cars consist of three hundred eActros semi-trailers, powered by two electric motors with a maximum output of 400 kW. The trucks have a range of about 220 kilometers and, depending on the charging infrastructure, the battery can be recharged from 20% to 80%. % in about one hour and 15 minutes with a charging capacity of up to 160 kW.

“Our all-electric eActros 300 semi-trailers are specially designed for regional distribution shipping and are already capable of supporting a wide variety of traditional truck operations. We are pleased that the eActros 300 will now also contribute to the construction of local roads. carbon-neutral freight forwarding in our own on-site delivery operations,” says Oliver Berger, Head of Network Strategy and Sustainability Inbound Logistics at Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

DHL is testing and implementing generation solutions as part of its journey towards more sustainable road freight transport, as no type of transport has been conclusively established so far, especially for long distances. In addition to all-electric semi-trailers, for example, DHL Freight recently started operating a hydrogen-powered truck from advertising vehicle manufacturer Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH. The goal is not only to identify the right engine mix, but also to influentially drive the transition to greater sustainability in the industry.
