SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The Middlesex County Board of Elections has rated the election results.
Following a successful re-election, South Brunswick Mayor Charles Carley and Councilman Ken Bierman are expected to be sworn in for their new terms in January.
The two Democratic incumbents defeated their Republican opponents, Michael Havardansky in the mayoral race and John J. Anthony in the race for a city council seat in the Nov. 8 general election.
In the four-year mayoral race, Carley won 9,106 votes and Havardansky won 4,143 votes.
Carley has been a member of the city council since 2005 and is most recently mayor of the municipality.
“After 15 years of service, I am pleased that my neighbors have approved of our efforts. My colleagues on the city council and I will continue to work hard for our people, our neighbors,” he said. Productive efforts and to all City Council members, we will do our best for Southern Brunswick. “
In the four-year term of the city council race, Bierman won 8,824 votes and Anthony won 4,306.
Bierman was first elected to the city council in 2017 and most recently serves on the Southern Brunswick Planning Council. He also served on the Southern Brunswick Zoning Council.
Bierman responded to requests for comment before press time.
Board of Education
The school board career featured six applicants who applied for 3 to have 3-year terms on the board.
Newcomer Laura Hernandez won 5545 votes, newcomer Alisha Khan won 5104 votes and newcomer Julie Ferraro won 5097 votes in her bids for seats.
Outgoing board chairwoman Joyce Mehta won 4690 votes, candidate James Lavan won 4031 votes and incumbent Raymond Kuehner won 3935 votes in his bids for the seats.
There are 106 written votes.
