Delray Beach’s retirement seeks to replace visitation policies

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – A dispute at Delray Beach has led several retirees to re-examine their own policy.

“My 90-year-old grandmother is sitting by the window right now and hopes to see the circle of relatives she hasn’t noticed in over a month,” Carly Podor said.

Podor and his circle of relatives never got to see their grandmother at Abbey Delray South. Most of the time, she talks on the phone with her head office.

“Possibly they wouldn’t let us into the assets because we got here to take a tour of the windows,” he said. “What we are allowed to do.”

Podor said the incident began when two of his cousins, under the age of 18, showed up for a visit. Abbey Delray South’s parent company, Life Space Communities, said it had a policy of restricting others under the age of 18. However, Podor said his cousins had come in the past.

“We had two stops. Like I said, this was going to be our third stopover and when we got there we were surprised by the reaction of the facility,” he said.

Finally, the Delray Police Department called. In a statement, Life Space Communities said it had no choice.

“When he denied entry, his car used to block access to our community, creating a security hazard,” according to Life Space Communities.

Podor had another vision.

“The acting director was very agitated and insisted that the police take into account a warning for illegally handing over my mother and me and banned us from assets for a year,” Podor said.

It turns out that this scenario would possibly have a satisfied ending after all. Life Space Communities told WPTV that it requested the removal of the intrusion order and that it joined Podor’s circle of relatives to postpone a visit, adding the children.

Regarding the policy, Life Space Communities said it “reevaluates restrictions for under-18s.”

Life Space Communities also said it is imperative that all citizens remain families linked to this pandemic.
