BUTLER TOWNSHIP – A multi-vehicle destination turn on Interstate 81 South on Mile 149 closed the road for several hours on Friday night between Exit 151 B (I-80 W. ) and Exit 145 (W. Hazelton) in Luzerne County, PennDOT said, officials said.
A witness told the Times Leader that a truck with bees crashed and overturned its cargo on the road, as the bees buzzed around the site of the wreckage.
PennDOT the highway reopened at 11:20 p. m.
Witness Stan Lobitz, who helped go blank after the accident, told the Times Leader that a truck with hives involved, with honey spilled on the pavement. The driving force was not injured, Lobitz said, and of 130 hives, nearly a dozen were the driving force of the truck was not injured, Lobitz said.
A local beekeeper called the scene to help with the cleanup efforts.
There were no immediate police reports on the number of other cars that may have been affected or if there were any injuries.
The turn of destination and closure resulted in long setbacks and traffic diversions on local roads.
