While most of her first season with the San Francisco 49ers spent her looking for a bald knee, the defensive end den fordyful Dee Ford came to camp with those who messed him up.
According to Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Ford looked much better physically for his industry with the Kansas City Chiefs last year.
“When he got here (this year), you can say it’s different,” Shanahan said. “He’s much more confident in his knee and you may feel it in him. Looking at it in practice for the last 3 days, I can see it.
“He was given more power there, coming out of the ball a lot more than he did right now in camp last year.”
Ford underwent off low-season surgery to treat persistent knee tendinitis that has haunted him since he was in Kansas City. Although he played more than 1,000 shots with the Chiefs in his final season with the team in 2018, Ford played 226 defensive shots in 11 games for the 49ers last year. A hamstring challenge also stopped him for the last month of the season.
Ford still controlled 6.5 catches last year for San Francisco despite limited play time. If you can be in good physical shape, an already tough 49ers pass race can be a great beneficiary.
What about your belief in depth? Did that help?
