One of the highlights of Crunchyroll’s spring anime lineup is the dystopian sci-fi story about youth, Dead Dead Demon’s Dedede’s Destruction. After a two-part movie release — the first component will be released on March 22 and the second component will be released on May 24 in Japan only — Dededede’s Dead Dead Demon Destruction will be available to stream on Crunchyroll in more than two hundred countries and territories around the world, as a launch of the new 18-episode TV series starting Thursday, May 23 at 8:00 a. m PM. PT, with episodes airing weekly with all-new footage never before seen in theaters.
Nominated for an Eisner Award in 2019 and identified by critics in 2018 at San Diego Comic-Con as one of the most productive new manga of the year, Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction is based on the original graphic novel created by Inio Asano (Goodnight Punpun). and published through Shogakukan from 2014 to 2022 with over 3 million copies in circulation. Not each and every author can manage to make a sweet and unhappy coming-of-age comedy in the shadow of an alien invasion.
Dededede’s Destruction Dead Demon is set in an existing era threatened by the sudden appearance of a mysterious alien mothership. Best friends Kadode Koyama and Oran “Ontan” Nakagawa continue their excellent school life. But as they get older, they face existential questions. Be informed about the complexities of adulthood and understand that the real risk may not come from above.
The anime is produced by Production H. , which previously produced The Orbital Children and was directed by Tomoyuki Kurokawa, best known for his work on the PSYCHO-PASS series. The composition and script for the series were written by Reiko Yoshida, whose previous paintings include the series Violet Evergarden, Liz and the Blue Bird, and A Silent Voice.
Additional production equipment includes sets by Takaaki Suzuki (Violet Evergarden series); character design and lead animation direction through Nobutake Ito (INU-OH); color design by Satoshi Takezawa (Digimon Adventure); art direction by Mika Nishimura (Typhon Noruda); CG production through Satoi Inami; cinematography through Takuma Morooka (Moriarty the Patriot); edited by Masayuki Kurosawa (Laid-Back Camp series); sound direction by Takeshi Takadera ([Oshi no Ko]); and music composed by Taro Umebayashi (Space Dandy).
The series features the main vocal performances of Lilac Ikuta (Hiro-chan in BELLE) as Kadode Koyama and ano (Memocho in [Oshi no Ko]) as Oran Nakagawa. Lilas Ikuta is also known as ikura, a singer-songwriter and lead singer of the popular music organization YOASOBI, whose songs come with the global phenomenon “Idol” from the anime series [Oshi no Ko], “Brave” from the anime series Frieren: Beyond. Journey’s End, and “The Blessing” from Mercury’s Mobile Suit Gundam. Animated witch series. Talented voice actor Ano is also a musical artist whose remarkable bachelor “Chu, Tayousei” can be heard as one of the ending themes of the animated series Chainsaw Man.
The original theme song from the film “ZeZeZeZettai Seiiki”, directed through the year with Lilas Ikuta, will also be part of the new TV edition of Dededede Destruction of Dead Dead Demon.
Dededede’s Destruction Dead Dead Demon will stream on Crunchyroll on Thursday, May 23.
