Aston Martin’s first DBX rolled off the production line of its St Athan factory in South Wales today with the new SUV marking a ‘milestone moment’ for the British luxury marque.

The British car maker was one of the first to welcome workers back to its assembly line, restarting production of the SUV from 5 May.

This comes after indebted Aston Martin Lagonda suffered months of confusion and a ransom of 536 million pounds through Canadian businessman and new president Lawrence Stroll.

Stroll, father of F1’s driving force, Lance and co-owner of the Formula Point racing team, is a former Ferrari collector and, according to Forbes, has a net worth of $2.6 billion.

He is guilty of overseeing the refinancing and restructuring of the company and has already acquired a replacement for outgoing CEO Andy Palmerin in the form of the new CEO Tobias Moers, well formed by Mercedes-AMG.

The firm said: ‘DBX it is an important model for Aston Martin and a clear illustration of the strength of British manufacturing capabilities.’

International Trade secretary Liz Truss visited the Port of Southampton to see Aston Martin’s first luxury SUV, the DBX, which will be shipped to the United States later this summer. 

Precedes 3 of the industry negotiations with the United States scheduled for the end of July.

Truss said the production of innovative British vehicles, like the Aston Martin DBX, will play a part in Britain’s economic recovery from coronavirus, and how a free trade agreement with the US can benefit the UK’s automotive industry.

As American consumers are the top buyers of British luxury cars like Aston Martins, the UK government faces the barriers facing British car brands lately and eliminates the average 2.5% tariff on British car exports to the United States.

“It’s wonderful to see an iconic logo like Aston Martin showing the most productive British design and engineering with the launch of dbX, while creating jobs and new opportunities in Wales,” he said Friday in a statement.

‘The UK automotive industry is one of our great success stories, and we will continue to push for a US trade deal that removes barriers for British car manufacturers like Aston Martin.

More industry with the United States will stimulate our economic recovery of the coronavirus, and our agreement with the automotive sector will bring not only expansion and investment to Wales, but also other production centers in the Midlands, the North West and the North-East, creating prosperity across the UK. ».
