Custom Consoles reports higher demands for the fastest selling operator safety screen

Custom Consoles reports strong demand for the Operator Safety Screen since its first shipment in early May. Customers to date include Al Jazeera, Amazon Prime, BBC Studioworks, BETV, CJP, Dega, Farnborough College, Gravity Media, IMG, Input Media, ITN, ITV, One Ten Productions, QVC, Racing UK, Solenis, STV, STV North and TimeLine.

With over 300 sales in three months it is one of the fastest selling new products in Custom Consoles’ history. “Broadcast media studios are gradually returning to a degree of normality following the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Gary Fuller, Sales Manager, Custom Consoles.

“The Operator Safety Screen is proving a key part of the strategy introduced by facility managers to reduce the risk of airborne infection or direct physical contact between control room personnel. BBC Studioworks for example has introduced a suite of key Covid-19 safety measures across its three facilities. These include mandatory temperature checks, screen dividers in all galleries, UVC cleaning, one-way pedestrian routes and dedicated operating protocol documents specific to each site.”

“We have implemented the Operator Safety Screens in all of our galleries across our footprint to enhance our health and safety measures, providing a reassuring level of protection for our staff and clients,” comments Meryl McLaren, Commercial Manager, BBC Studioworks.

“The front finish of the screen, straddling the desk, is a giant transparent panel that we will be very careful about, allowing workplace operators a line of sight for video screens along the front wall.”

The operator safety screen is designed to be compatible with the traditional Module-R series of technical furniture consoles, but is suitable for all other offices in the company’s product line and those manufactured through other furniture suppliers. Each screen includes a giant birch plywood frame with uncompromising, low-profile flooring. A transparent polycarbonate panel attached to the most sensitive frame gives operators an uninterrupted view of all appliances and their colleagues adjacent to their overall workflow. The handles are built into the frame for simple movement.
