BMW has shown that the M8’s two-door variants will be sold on the U.S. market for the 2021 style year, leaving the Grand Coupé four-door as the only M8 2021 style available. However, the company says there is an abundant fountain of M8 style 2020 two doors. Starting in the 2022 style year (whose structure is expected to begin next spring), the 3 M8 frame styles are expected to be presented here again.
The excess stock of the M8 is not surprising. Automotive News reported that the company had had trouble locating buyers for Series 8 in the U.S. Before 2020, and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic did not help its cause. And demand for giant, expensive two-door models has declined worldwide in recent years, which is at least one component of why the next generation of Mercedes-Benz S-Class will only be four doors.
BMW doesn’t break down 8 Series sales through the taste or genre of the draw, so we don’t know how many M8 two-door games it sold in 2019. 4,410 copies of the 8 (all tastes and variants of the painting) discovered a house at the end year, a figure that loosely places the genre ahead of the i8 (1,102 sales) and slightly the i3 (4,845 sales).
Fans who want to have a 2021 style M8 will have to buy the Four-Door Grand Coupé, which has a base value of $130,000. Alternatively, the 840i and M850i two-door styles (powered by a six- and eight-cylinder engine, respectively) will be components of BMW’s 2021 range.
