A convicted murderer faces life in a federal government after being convicted of drug and gun charges this month.
According to a press sent Tuesday through the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Fortson on parole for a manslaughter in Macon County in October 2017 when U.S. marshals and narcotics officers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency beat up his apartment in Watchman Circle.
According to court records, Fortson was qualified with murder in March 2009 following the death of Cortavious Roberts, qualified with manslaughter under oath, but was eventually found guilty of the original rate and was sentenced in 2012 to serve a total of 20 years in prison.five years under surveillance. Sentenced to two years in prison.
When U.S. marshals knocked on the door of Fortson’s apartment to represent a probation violation order for the murder conviction, her friend opened the door and let officers into the apartment, according to court records.the impression of being methamphetamine and tested positive.
Officers are looking for court orders for the apartment and a Nissan Altima in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
During the searches, officials recovered approximately 2.8 ounces of methamphetamine “from the back bedroom floor to the back bathroom” and from within the car. Officers also discovered less than a quarter of an ounce of marijuana, virtual scale sets, 16 acetaminophen and hydrocodones, six and ½ seconds from Clonazepen and one from Xanax, according to court records. A loaded AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and a 9mm Ruger pistol were also recovered.
Fortson faces at least five years in prison, being life imprisonment, no parole in federal prisons, and has a sentencing hearing scheduled for December 9.
