Citroën won 3 prestigious awards at the Car Design News People Awards 2023, held in London on 7 December. These awards were given to the revolutionary Citroën OLI concept, recognised for its innovative, sustainable and avant-garde design. Organised through Car Design News (CDN) People, which celebrates design excellence throughout the process, awarded Citroën’s design team in 3 categories: Most Sustainable Design Team, Best Interior Design Team and Best Exterior Design Team.
Citroën’s adventure at the Car Design News People Awards 2023 began last July when the Citroën design team presented the OLI concept in 3 of 15 categories: Best Exterior Design Team, Best Interior Design Team and Most Sustainable Team .
Oli presents a new design direction for Citroën. The design team prioritized capability by creating a flexible vehicle with plenty of internal space that accommodates other roles, from the family limousine to the urban explorer to the cadre companion. OLI’s design emphasizes low weight, maximum strength and durability, with flat hood, roof and rear panels. The vertical windshield minimizes the use of glass, reducing weight and sun exposure. Identical power and lightness in the front doors. OLI presents the new Citroën badge, reminiscent of the 1919 logo, with unique front and rear lighting modules that will gradually become components of long-term production models. The design seamlessly integrates form and function, offering adaptability and power in various scenarios.
Oli points to life cycle assessment and then offers a cutting-edge view of the long-term of e-mobility. Designed to challenge the prestige quo through the use of recyclable fabrics and less confusing production processes, Oli embodies all the inventiveness and creativity for which Citroën is renowned.
The seats, for example, have an indisputable structure and are made with 80% fewer parts than a classic seat and recycled materials. Its concept tires are estimated to have a lifespan of up to 500,000 km, thanks to a durable carcass and tread that can be renewed twice during its lifetime.
The number of parts needed for doors and seats is measured to simplify production processes and weight.
The state-of-the-art use of responsible, lightweight and recycled fabrics, as well as a simplified and sustainable production process, illustrate how Oli is designed with the least imaginable impact on the environment while satisfying the desires of multiple lifestyles.
Its design features placed Citroën among the finalists, ahead of the awards ceremony in London on 7 December, where Citroën’s design team, represented by Pierre LECLERCQ, Citroën’s design director, Pierre SABAS, Concept Car designer and Raphaël DOUKHAN, exterior designer, won. the award for the top sustainable design team, the award for the best interior design team, and the award for the best exterior design team.
