Red Bull boss Christian Horner is “appalled” by rivals’ accusations that his team had cheated. The FIA found that Red Bull’s spending last year exceeded the budget cap.
McLaren’s Zak Brown sent a letter as part of the investigation that was leaked to the media, saying any form of non-compliance with regulations would be considered “cheating”. Although Horner felt he was not in a position to make those claims and did not hesitate to talk about the issue at a joint press conference ahead of the United States Grand Prix.
He said, “Obviously, Zak’s letter, which we didn’t copy from us yet, we saw this letter, incredibly disappointing. “For another competitor to be accused of cheating, accusing you of fraudulent activity is shocking. This is certainly shocking.
“Without the facts, without the wisdom of details, to make this kind of accusation. We are on trial because of the public allegations from [the race to] Singapore. The rhetoric of the cheaters, the rhetoric that we have had this enormous advantage, the figures published in the media are miles away from reality.

“The damage it does to the brand, to our partners, to drivers, to our workforce, at a time when intellectual fitness is prevalent, we are seeing significant issues in our workforce. We have young children who are bullied on playgrounds who are the employees’ youth: it’s not fair through fictitious accusations from other teams.
“You can’t just make those kinds of accusations without any facts or foundations. We are surely dismayed by the behavior of some of our competitors. “However, Brown responded to comments in his letter and told Horner he never claimed Red Bull cheated. .

Instead, Brown’s article commented on what he thinks the repercussions for a rule violation deserve, regardless of the team. He explained: “My letter said that if a team spent more than the limit, they would get an advantage. We’re not looking at whether they did or not. My letter was if anyone has, those are the things that deserve to be addressed.
“I didn’t mention any equipment, it was a general response now that we’re in the era of load limitation, this is what we think the ramifications are. “Red Bull has had talks with the FIA for the past 10 days, no agreement has been reached. The “minor infraction” has been sanctioned at this stage.
