Chinese battery manufacturer considers a plant in France, says

PARIS – Chinese renewable energy organization Envision will build a battery plant in France to supply the developing electric vehicle market, a French newspaper reported.

The company, which has battery production plants in Japan, the United States, Britain and China, has known about a dozen potential sites in France for the long-term plant, the Journal du Dimanche reported Sunday, citing unidentified sources. .

According to the newspaper, Sylvie Ouziel, envision’s foreign director, said the organization planned to invest billions of euros in a new plant that is expected to open by the end of 2023 and create a thousand jobs.

Ouziel said that Britain’s exit from the European Union had replaced the landscape and that one more plant was needed to supply countries such as France and Spain, did not specify France as the planned location for the new plant.

Envision did not respond to a request for comment. The Chinese organization entered the electric vehicle battery market by obtaining AESC from Nissan Motor in 2019. Envision-AESC produces batteries for electric cars in Tennessee; Sunderland, England; Wuxi, China; kanagawa, Japan.

The European Union has encouraged local corporations to expand their capacity in a sector governed by Chinese production. In France, energy giant Total and car manufacturer Peugeot plan to expand the production of electric vehicle batteries through a joint venture that also aims to build a plant in Germany.

Swedish company Northvolt plans two plants, one of which is for the Volkwagen Group.
