Chicago restaurants can use old buses, sports cars and portable greenhouses during the winter months.

Fox News has reported in the past that in an effort to alleviate these concerns, the City of Chicago has organized a Winter Design Challenge to locate a cutting-edge solution that still meets local fitness and protection guidelines. Winners will get $5,000 for their artistic maxim and achievable ideas.

The competition, which ran until September 7, was announced in partnership with BMO Harris Bank, the design company IDEO and the Illinois Restaurant Association.

A total of 643 entries were submitted, Eater reports Chicago. Si some entries were jokes, others came from professionally designed firms.

According to the media, several presentations advised that the CTA’s old buses and trains be reused for recovery purposes. Some concepts revolved around allowing restaurants to hire buses or for cars to become socially remote dining spaces.

Another popular concept would have been known as “Slide and Dine”. This concept concerned the structure of modular greenhouse-like structures that would be provided with their own heating and ventilation systems. This would allow restaurants to continue with a form of outdoor food the colder months or periods of bad weather.

Some presentations would have advised installing heated tables, while at least one advised that old phone booths keep other people warm; however, this is considered a joke.

A winner has not yet been announced, the mayor has stated in the past that winning concepts would require concepts that can be seamlessly replicated in the city and the various corporations involved in the manufacture and use of the products.
