The Chemours Co. (Wilmington, Del. ) recently celebrated the commissioning of its latest mineral sand mine, Trail Ridge South, in Clay County, Florida. The new mining operation represents a $93 million investment that will create approximately 50 new jobs in the three-county area.

The allocation of more than 30 acres to expand its mining operations will allow Chemours, the only domestic manufacturer of titanium and zirconium ores and one of only two domestic manufacturers of rare terrestrial minerals, to have more of those high-quality concentrated deposits used to produce Chemours’ Ti-Pure Ti-Pure Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) logo.

“A reliable source of ilmenite and other quality minerals is critical to our ability to serve our customers. Getting those resources from a network we’re already so deeply connected to makes it even better — it’s a win-win situation,” Mark said. Smith, vice president of operations, Chemours Titanium Technologies. ” We are incredibly proud to call Clay County home and take a look at many years of operations and partnership. “

Chemours’ sand extraction technique uses environmental cleanup processes that have minimal impact on the environment and supplies for complete land reclamation when extraction is complete. Built in about thirteen months, the Trail Ridge South facility was designed using a modularization concept, where modules were built off-site and then shipped to site for assembly. Modularization makes it less difficult to move the facility within a shorter time frame at the end of the mine’s life, which is expected to be approximately 8 years. The structure of the new mining facility required 150,000 hours of work, with no recorded injuries. In addition, site officials worked intensively with state and federal regulators to download the required inputs and ensure there were no negative effects on the environment.

In addition, Trail Ridge South will incorporate Mobile Mining Units (MMUs) that address environmental considerations similar to traditional dredging mining. MMUs allow the site to have much lower emissions, reduced dust levels, and improved protection by eliminating classic transport trucks. In addition, the facility will recycle 98% of the water used in the production process, offering sustainable solutions while fulfilling Chemours’ commitment to mineral processing. Trail Ridge South’s water treatment and treatment ponds are all built above ground, with a garage capacity of approximately 39 million gallons.

“Chemours is a wonderful network partner, and has made significant investments in the Bradford domain and Clay County by offering good-paying jobs and making donations and reaching out to their local communities. Whether its workers clean Keystone Heights lakes with Keep Clay Beautiful or donate budget for STEM projects, Chemours is committed to helping our neighbors, and we look forward to the company’s long-term good fortune in our state and in this particular region. “said Rep. Bobthrough Payne, District 19-FL. ” In addition, Chemours supplies significant mineral resources such as titanium discovered particularly in our North Florida region, which satisfies global desires in many other products. “
