Chattanooga city councillor Erskine Oglesby will run for mayor in 2021.

Oglesby has represented District 7, adding Alton Park, St. Elmo and parts of downtown since 2017, but said on a Friday that his next 4 years would be more spent as mayor.

“For the most part of my adult life, I have committed to serving others, and the more than 4 years of serving the Chattanooga audience have brought many successes and opportunities for Chattanooga to grow,” he wrote. Oglesby, who is president of the City Council, has reveled as chairman of the Board of the Erlanger Community Health Center and vice president of the Chattanooga Pension Board.

Oglesby is one of seven applicants to compete in the race for the position of outgoing Mayor Andy Berke in March 2021, along with nonprofit leader Kim White, Councilman Russell Gilbert, activist Christopher Dahl and businessmen Monty Bruell, Tim Kelly and Andrew McLaren.
