On August 23, 2023, Vikram Lander of Chandrayaan-3 effectively made a comfortable landing on the Moon, making India the fourth country to achieve this feat and the first to do so near the Moon’s south pole. The Pragyan Rover was also deployed effectively. and the landing place called “Shiv Shakti” point. This was commemorated by designating August 23 as National Space Day.
This year’s National Space Day theme, ‘Touching Lives While Touching the Moon: The Indian Space Saga’, is being celebrated at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, with a live telecast on ISRO platforms. The occasion includes high-level sessions and interactive exhibitions. and major announcements related to India’s space achievements. ‘Space on Wheels’, mobile exhibitions, will be held at educational institutions across the country to create awareness about ISRO’s contributions.
ISRO Chairman S Somanath thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his pivotal role in progressing India’s space sector through key policy reforms. He highlighted that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership was instrumental in implementing policies that led to the success of the Indian area.
National Space Day also includes educational initiatives, adding a quiz for academics on topics related to the area, highlighting India’s commitment to sparking the interest of young minds in space science. The day’s celebrations reflect India’s continued commitment to harnessing space generation for social progress and motivating long-term generations.
