Center Border Patrol Officers 135 pounds of methamphetamine in gift wrapper; driving force stopped

Border Patrol officials in the Administration of The Center seized approximately 135 pounds of methamphetamine in gift wrappers that they said were smuggled into the United States through the driving force of a Toyota van.

Methamphetamine was discovered through an officer and his K-9 spouse who prevent a vehicle at approximately 3:50 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 8.

While the officer was conducting an immigration interview, K-9 alerted methamphetamine while sniffing the 2003 Toyota Tundra, authorities said.

The officer searched the vehicle and discovered two giant gifts wrapped in gift wrappers and a giant plastic bag containing a total of 119 cellophane wrappers, he said.

The man, the packages and the vehicle were taken to the Calexico border patrol station for treatment.

At the station, the packaging was verified with a narcotics control kit, which tested positive for methamphetamine characteristics, valued at approximately $303,750.

The man, a 34-year-old lawful permanent resident from Mexico whose call was not released, the narcotics and the vehicle were handed over to the Drug Control Administration.
