Casual & Charming: My Stay at Coconut Bay Beach Resort

Saint Lucia has been on my bucket list for many years. Though small (only 238 square miles), the island is home to palm-fringed beaches, lush forests, cerulean waters teeming with marine life, and, of course, the iconic Gros Piton. and Petit Pitón.

When I Had the Opportunity of the Coconut Bay Beach Resort

Here’s everything you want to know about Coconut Bay Beach Resort

Located in Vieux Fort at the southern tip of St. Lucia, the Coconut Bay Beach Resort

Originally a Club Med, the resort closed shortly after 9/11. The hotel was remodeled and reopened in 2005 as the Coconut Bay Beach Resort. It is independently owned by the same people since it reopened, which is part of its charm. The family atmosphere is strong here, and not just in genuine families. Couples and groups of friends seem to connect with the staff, creating a close-knit atmosphere at the hotel. During our stay, I didn’t feel the superior concentration of a single type of traveler. We saw couples, nuptials (a wedding was held while we were there), teams of friends and families, adding some multi-generational teams.

The 250-key assets include two hotels: Harmony (an adults-only hotel) and Splash, a family-friendly hotel that has the largest water park in St. Lucia. A third suite-only hotel, the couples-only all-inclusive Serenity in Coconut Bay, is in the assets but separate from Harmony and Splash. The Splash Wing has 64 interconnectable rooms, ideal for giant families or combined teams that need to stay close but have their own space.

Coconut Bay closes September for refreshments and renovations, adding a resort-wide room renovation that’s expected to be finished by the end of 2025 (more on this later).

Coco Bay Beach Resort

Rates for a stay at Harmony or Splash start at $438 per night for double occupancy. Serenity suite-only rates start at $1,120 per night in double occupancy.

Check-in couldn’t have been easier. We were given a refreshing (and delicious) welcome rum drink and guided to the reception. The total check-in procedure took less than 10 minutes and then a friendly waiter guided us to our room.

Coco Bay Beach Resort

I was inspired by the lack of crowding around the pools, in the bars, and in the public areas, even though the hotel was occupied at 80% of our stay.

AvGeeks will love its proximity to the airport – what could be better than watching planes in great tropical homes with a cocktail in hand?(The hotel also offers free airport shuttles to and from the UVF. )

You’re a 45-minute drive from the iconic Pitons of St. Lucia and the herbal attractions of La Soufriere to the north. The hotel can arrange excursions and adventure tours (read on for more details).

An understated atmosphere and a sense of network to delineate Coconut Bay.

When I asked about the lack of wristbands on customers’ wrists, I said they didn’t want them. “We know our visitors,” explained Natalia Greene, vice president of sales and marketing. From memorizing visitors’ names to their favorite drinks, the public’s attention doesn’t create a huge following. I’ve been told that some visitors have more than 30 visits under their belt, and that doesn’t surprise me.

I witnessed the sweetest reunion between a circle of family members and a staff member. The circle of relatives had just checked in and bumped into the staff member in the lobby. It’s like witnessing an exchange between old friends who haven’t seen each other in a long time.

The sense of network also extends beyond the sprawling complex. While we were there, I had the opportunity to attend a press conference announcing the complex’s sponsorship of a local preschool, ABC Funhouse Learning Center. As part of the resort’s CocoLand Cares initiative, the task includes a complete renovation of the study rooms with new bathrooms, furniture, flooring and updated lighting. In addition, the complex will supply school systems and supplies, as well as acquire and install new playground equipment.

And beyond the friendly and welcoming staff, Coconut Bay showcases the talents of other people from St. Lucia. Murals created by local artists adorn the buildings, and the complex hosts a local craft market on Tuesdays and Saturdays of the week. The hotel’s shop offers a variety of products made on the island.

Please note that if your stay falls during sea turtle nesting season (between March and November), you can participate in the resort’s endangered sea turtle program, Sea Turtle Scouts. The program educates visitors on the importance of protecting nesting turtles that land and hatchlings that emerge from their nests.

For my three-night stay, I had booked an Oceanview Junior Suite Concierge room in the 18-and-over aspect of the resort. Our room on the fourth floor included a personal balcony overlooking the adults-only pool and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Our room was spacious, with plenty of room for my husband and I to spread out. In addition to enough space with drawers, two closets contained a safe, an ironing board, and an iron, and included plenty of shelves and space to store our luggage.

The front of the room featured a dramatic work area with a giant mirror, a lighted vanity mirror, and an alarm clock. However, the power output area was a bit limited and I found myself having to unplug the illuminated mirror in order to plug it in. my iron. Outlets in the bathroom would have been ideal, for example. However, I couldn’t locate any of them, unless they were well hidden. Also, there was no bedside outlet to rate our phones.

A giant corner cabinet contained a coffee maker with coffee and tea making facilities, a portable ice maker, and a mini-fridge with soda, water, local beer, and a bottle of champagne. Although incredibly convenient, the ice machine dropped ice. Several times in the middle of our first night, waking me up. We unplugged it the next morning. If you’re a heavy sleeper, this may not be a challenge for you.

The room also had a small sitting area with a loveseat and coffee table, and our balcony had two chairs and a small table.

I slept incredibly well in our four-poster king size bed – the bed had enough company to offer without being too hard. In addition, the pillows were huge and offered enough flexibility for a comfortable neck position.

Other in-room amenities included bathrobes and slippers, free Wi-Fi, a Coconut Bay Beach Resort-branded beach bag, and a plate of chocolate-covered strawberries and other homemade treats. The hotel has proven that all concierges point visitors to those welcoming amenities.

I was especially inspired by the home delivery service. Each scale included a handwritten note. It was such a sweet way to start or end our day and was another example of the private main points that make scale operators feel welcome. Plus, concierge room scale operators get a 20% reduction in the price of the Sanctuary Spa, which I recommend taking credit for (more on that below).

The bathroom was a very clever length for us. It had slight signs of wear and tear (minor rust stains and a few nicks here and there), but they were faintly noticeable (and possibly wouldn’t even be a challenge once the upgrades were complete). There was a giant shower and several towel racks and hooks for bathing suits in the rain. The sink area was gigantic, with room for my makeup and toiletries. It included a wall-mounted hairdryer and Molton Brown toiletries.

The aforementioned renovations that take place each September come with upgrades to the resort’s rooms. During our stay, we visited two renovated rooms, one in the Harmony Wing and one in the Splash Wing. In addition to a reconfigured layout, completely renovated bathrooms, and new bedroom décor, the renovated rooms have gaming outlets near the bed.

If you would like to do laundry during your stay, there is an on-site laundromat located on the side of the Splash. Includes 3 washing machines, two dryers and laundry baskets. It’s free for visitors to use, but you want to provide your own detergent and cloth. fabric softener or buy them at the hotel shop.

One of the wonderful attractions of all-inclusive resorts is that food and beverages are regularly included in your stay. You get unlimited access to food and beverages without having to pull out your wallet every time. While the quality of food at all-inclusive resorts can rarely be hit or miss, I’ve been inspired by the variety and quality of my meals here.

Coconut Bay Beach guests can choose from nine on-site restaurants and seven bars. Dining venues include Coconut Walk Marketplace (the resort’s main restaurant), Flip Flops Burger Bar and Pizzeria (walk-in restaurant), Trattoria (casual Italian). , Silk (Thai, Indian, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine), Calebasse (breakfast for Harmony visitors offering Caribbean food for dinner), Veranda (adults-only outdoor dining), and Jerk Treehouse (poolside spot for casual Caribbean dining).

Couples desiring a romantic evening can book a personal three-course gourmet dinner at La Luna, the resort’s entry-level restaurant. For $159 per couple, they can enjoy dishes like coconut strips, garlic shrimp, herb-crusted filet mignon, and grilled lamb. New Zealand chops, a variety of miniature sweets, and banana coconut mousse.

Guests can also relax at some of the on-site bars, including the Lobby Bar, the Sand Bar, the Swim-Up Pool Bar (on the splash side), and the Harmony Pool Bar. Walk along the beach a little to the left. To triumph at the Paradise Beach Bar, where there are also sun loungers, parasols, hammocks, a towel rack and bathrooms. A fried fish lunch is served daily from 11:30 a. m. to 2:00 p. m.

In addition, Peter John’s Lounge (on the second floor of the main building) offers Caribbean rum tastings led by the resort’s master rum maker (more on this later), and the Sugar Cane Rum Bar in Peter John’s Lounge offers more than 30 of the rums. of the Caribbean. Rums.

We couldn’t succeed at all during our three-night stay, but here’s my take on the ones that did.

Our first dinner at the Calabash hotel did not disappoint, which created high expectations for long-term food during our stay. Calabash’s menu offers a taste of Caribbean and St. Lucian cuisine.

Our meal started with a delicious welcome drink, Calabash Punch, made with smooth rum, melon liqueur, pineapple juice, triple sec, and orange juice. We ordered a curry soup of the day, spiced squash, banana and poultry fritters, the fish. of the day and a Caribbean bread pudding. Every bite is applicable: new and tasty.

Calebasse is open for dinner from 6 p. m. to 9:30 p. m. m. y reservations are required.

To the left of the lobby, the resort’s main dining spot is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; We only ate there for breakfast.

This buffet included typical breakfast options, adding vegetarian baked beans, hash browns, potatoes, and vegetarian quiche. It also included two hot stations: an omelet station and a “Miss Emme’s” breakfast station with made-to-order eggs benedict and French toast. , waffles and pancakes. I tried the eggs benedict (no ham), the vegetarian quiche, and the potatoes. The eggs benedict were fine (my husband’s ham included and had the same gimmick), but the vegetarian quiche and potatoes were especially delicious.

Other stations introduced a variety of new fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and smoothies. They also featured new coconut water served in coconuts: it’s a delight. I especially liked the mimosa and Bloody Mary self-service station at the entrance. Is there a better way to start your breakfast in paradise?

Typical lunch and dinner features include salads, pastas, stir-fries, grilled panini sandwiches, a kids’ buffet, and other dishes.

The atmosphere at the Silk is warm, with Asian-inspired décor and dark ceilings adorned with lanterns that offer just the right amount of light.

We tried almost everything and were incredibly satisfied with everything we tried. Sushi and sashimi were new and expertly executed. We had the shrimp dragon roll, tuna and salmon sashimi, veggie spring rolls, ahi poke and the grilled catch of the day with wok-fried veggies and citrus soy sauce.

Silk is open for dinner from 6 p. m. to 9:30 p. m. m. y reservations are required.

This adults-only dining room is exclusive to Harmony guests. The terrace is open in the morning for breakfast and then for dinner from 6:00 p. M. A 9:30 p. m. (reservations required). During our stay, we only had dinner here for breakfast.

It was a smart choice for a lively buffet atmosphere and proved to be an easy way to start the day. Though limited, Los Angeles’ a la carte menu featured a clever variety. I enjoyed a fluffy vegetable omelette and salted potatoes. My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict came back and I enjoyed them the most at the time. Veranda also featured a self-service station for mimosas and Bloody Marys.

If you dine here, expect a variety of signature dishes, such as chili smoked marlin with lime aioli, pickled onions, and fried capers, grilled beef tenderloin served with coconut shrimp in red wine reduction, and desserts like chocolate and rum cake with strawberry coulis and toasted almond ice cream.

Originally a kiosk-style stand, Jerk-style food was so popular that the hotel created a bigger (and cooler) place for it. The chef who ran the original kiosk still works in Coconut Bay. Built around a giant sea grape, the Jerk Treehouse sits poolside in the hotel’s Splash area. The menu includes grilled poultry, red meats and sausages marinated with an original blend of Jamaican spices, accompanied by rice and peas. Unfortunately, I couldn’t revel in it, but my husband said the idiot bird is one of the most productive he’s ever tasted.

This walk-in place seemed lively most of the time. Its ideal location between the Splash and Harmony pools probably has a lot to do with it. However, if other pieces of the menu are as clever as the baked veggie pizza I ordered, that’s probably the reason. The made-to-order pizza took about 10 minutes to prepare and was well worth the wait. The mouthwatering crust, fancy, bubbly cheese, and veggies were perfect.

The openness and central location of this bar have made it a popular spot with patrons. With indoor and outdoor seating, it’s obviously a bar to go to for a pre- or post-dinner drink.

Since our room was in the adults-only Harmony aspect of the resort, we regularly visited Dillan at the Tiki Bar. Friendly and professional, the bartenders prepared our drinks very well and maintained a fun relationship with the guests.

Coco Bay Beach Resort

The Splash pools seemed to be busy but not too crowded, with plenty of seating available. Guests can enjoy a game of volleyball by the pool or enjoy a drink (non-alcoholic for kids) at the pool bar. Between the two Splash pools and right next door Al Flip Flops Burger Bar is a covered domain with dining tables, as well as pool tables and a ping-pong table.

Seriously, I don’t take all the credit for CocoLand Waterpark, St. Lucia’s largest water park, on the Splash side of the resort. The Coconut Coaster and the Coconut Canon looked amazing, and the visitors I saw going down the man-made river seemed absolutely satisfied.

The pool at Harmony has an expansive look, with plenty of loungers and lounge chairs, plus super cool beds with wheels that you can twist and stick to the sun for a coveted even tan. A pool included lounge chairs in the water and a huge hot tub in the middle of the pool.

Coconut Bay Beach seemed almost personal: there were no crowds here pushing lounge chairs or jet skis whizzing in the water. Seating on the beach was well spaced and only non-motorized sports were allowed (more on this below). Part of the beach had personal cabanas exclusively for Serenity guests.

The resort’s fitness center was air-conditioned and well-equipped. From treadmills and elliptical trainers to loose weights and weight-bearing education equipment, visitors have a wide selection of tactics for getting through the holidays. In addition, there are fitness and morning categories. Yoga at the oceanfront gazebo is featured and included in your stay.

Near the end of the beach portion of the resort, locate Surf Shack. There, visitors can take kitesurfing, windsurfing, and foil wing lessons with qualified instructors ($85 per hour). Courses are offered for all levels.

Other non-motorized water sports such as snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, and kayaking can also be practiced and included in your stay.

Coconut Bay Beach Resort also has a 30,000-square-foot paintball facility for visitors over the age of thirteen ($20 per child).

If you’re the type of tourist who likes to do it all, take care of it all in Coconut Bay. From pool parties to special events, there are plenty of activities for all interests. The community’s comprehensive newsletter, Coconut Bay Breeze, will remain you informed.

You possibly won’t have to wait until July to enjoy the Saint Lucia Carnival birthday party. Every Saturday night, the hotel hosts its own carnival, called Caribbean Night, and it’s not to be missed. laugh and very busy. Dinner was served buffet-side with a wide variety of Caribbean and St. Lucian dishes and desserts. The entertainment was top of mind with a lively brass drum band, fireplace performers, carnival costumes and stilt walkers.

We also enjoyed the resort’s rum tasting experience, which was free for visitors and included another 15 rums. It was organized through Holder, the master bartender from Coconut Bay. He shared the history of St. Lucia rum and gave a review of the rums we tasted. I was inspired by the resort’s wide variety of Caribbean rums, which, I said, is the largest variety in St. Lucia and one of the largest in the Caribbean.

If you have a sweet tooth, don’t miss the Friday night chocolate buffet, held in the Stargazers Lounge on the second floor of the main building. It’s a lovely (and delicious) display of new fruits, brownies, miniature desserts, cookies, and a chocolate fountain.

There is a small petting zoo on-site called Coco Corral with rescued goats, chickens, and ducks. I was told that donkeys also roamed the farm, but I couldn’t locate them during my stay. However, I have spied on the resort’s resident puppy, Lucy, several times at the resort, and she is valuable.

Other occasions to look out for are a beach party with a full moon, hay walks, bonfires, and foam parties.

I appreciated that the paid tours were indexed on the resort’s online page and included costs. The tours featured were also indexed in the brochures (with costs) near the office. I’ve visited stations where they only disclose costs when you contact the seller. , which bothers me. For me, being ahead of the curve with costs makes the experience greater, especially if you’re making extra plans like tours.

Our organization participated in the all-inclusive catamaran land and sea adventure (offered Monday through Friday). Our full-day adventure included two snorkeling stops along the west coast of St. Lucia, with epic perspectives of the Pitons.

Then, we enjoyed a buffet-style lunch with classic dishes like bread salad, green figs, and saltfish at Beacon, a dining spot overlooking the Pythons.

Lunch followed to a stopover at the enchanting Toraille waterfall, and then the day ended with a dust bath (a must!) at the Soufriere Sulphur Springs volcano.

The price of the Land and Sea Adventure Catamaran is $139 for adults and $89 for children.

Rainforest Zip Line Adventure ($89 for adults and $79 for children ages 6-12), half-day giant green jeep safari ($89 for adults and $69 for children ages 2-12), and horseback riding ($106 per child) are among other island excursions to consider.

The Sanctuary Spa is located on the adults-only Harmony side of the resort. It has six indoor treatment rooms and six beachfront spa cabins. The spa also features a three-bed treatment room (for girls’ trips or honeymoons), a room for facials, and a couples’ remedy room.

Guests can also relax before or after their treatment in the hammam and sauna.

The remedies incorporate products made on the island with sourced ingredients, such as chocolate for the sugar scrub and chocolate “Cocoa Tea”. Some coconut products are made with coconuts from the property’s probably infinite number of coconut trees. In addition, aloe vera from the resort’s aloe lawn is used in soothing remedies such as the Aloe Vera Wrap.

I enjoyed the Deep Tissue Tranquility massage ($110 for 50 minutes and $159 for 80 minutes). It was hands down one of the most productive massages I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a few).

Although our room is in the adults-only Harmony segment of the hotel and we spent most of our time there, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the powerful, physically kid-friendly offerings at Coconut Bay Beach Resort.

Thanks to the CocoLand Kidz Klub, the hotel offers a well-organized program for 3 age groups: 3 years and under, 4 to 7 years old, and 8 to 12 years old. With a ratio of 6 children to staff:1 (3:1 for children under 3), younger visitors are well catered for and hotel pets, Coco and Loco, are welcome to come and us. Parents have a local mobile phone to check in. At the end of their vacation, kids’ club shoppers get an album full of photographs of their week’s adventures.

CocoLand visitors get a backpack with a water bottle, a t-shirt, a hat, and an activity book. Regular visitors get a Coco or Loco stuffed animal.

Beyond the air-conditioned and gorgeously decorated rooms for indoor activities, CocoLand includes a huge fenced-in lawn with a pirate play area and a children’s water play area. The aforementioned Coco Corral Petting Zoo is just beyond the playground.

From Monday to Friday, children ages 3 and up will also be able to participate in themed evening activities such as karaoke nights, sleepovers, soft nights, and tent “Camp Nights,” all with s’mores, dinner, and a movie.

In addition to the included children’s activities, the hotel offers paid babysitting services ($15 per hour depending on the child). Childcare is provided through the kids’ club staff, so young people participating in the program will get to know their guardians, which can ease any separation. Anxious children (or parents) may be outconsistent.

The Teen Club’s programming is presented during the summer months and the Christmas and Easter holidays. Activities include guided hikes, beach parties, paintball challenges, and a kitesurfing lesson.

Coco Bay Beach Resort

However, no hotel is better for each and every one or every type of stay. Here are the moments when the Coconut Bay Beach Resort

Coconut Bay’s ramp formula provided all of the property’s spaces. In addition, the lobby and other public spaces were spacious and open, offering plenty of room to maneuver.

The hotel offers five rooms available: three in the adults-only Harmony section and two in the family-friendly Splash section. Downstairs rooms are spacious and feature grab bars and adjustable showerheads in the bathrooms.

There are no chairlifts at any of the pools, one of the Splash pools has a zero-entry side.

Distilling the essence of such a cozy piece of paradise into a single review is a challenge. I love vacation homes that have a higher return rate from guests, and the Coconut Bay Beach Resort fits that bill. Genuine and caring staff members who don’t forget where you came from, what your favorite drink is, and other nuances make each and every guest feel special.

I hope to be among the visitors who will return in the near future.
