Cass County crash leaves two injured

WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Two other people were injured after a motorcycle crash in Cass County.

On May 29, at approximately 3:28 p. m. , sheriff’s deputies won a call of a motor vehicle’s twist of fate at Marcellus Highway and Griffith Road in Wayne Township.

An investigation showed Robert Rudd, 54, of Decatur, was driving westbound on Marcellus Highway when the motorcycle he was riding had mechanical problems, authorities said.

Rudd lost his motorcycle and crashed in the eastbound lane, along with his passenger, Melisa Menzies, 44, of Elkhart, Indiana.

Due to his injuries, Rudd was transported via MED flight to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Menzies was also transported to the same hospital via the VBEMS ambulance.

The two occupants of the motorcycle were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Alcohol and drugs are not to blame for the accident, according to authorities.
