Used car shop CarMax, the largest used car customer and distributor in the U. S. The U. S. Department of Homeland Security plans to open a supermarket in Rogers, south of the city, east of Interstate 49.
The Richmond, Virginia-based workshop is in the early stages of approval to build a new workshop on a 17. 4-acre site at 6360 S. Dixieland Road, just north of the Lowell city limits.
If approved, it would be the company’s first supermarket in Arkansas. CarMax operates more than 230 retail stores in 41 states across the country.
According to initial plans submitted to the planning commission, CarMax plans to construct a 42,909-square-foot building on the land. The allocation would also include approximately 260 customer parking spaces.
Proponents submitted the paper on January 24. After any comments or revisions to the plan, it will be submitted to the city’s plan drawing commission at a later date.
“It can take two to three years to get all the mandatory approvals, the full structure and open businesses once we make the decision to move forward in any location,” a corporate spokeswoman said. “CarMax will announce the opening of the new store about a year ahead of schedule. “
CenterPoint Integrated Solutions of Colorado is the company’s partner. CEI Engineering Associates Inc. de Bentonville is the civil engineer and Pieper, O’Brien, Herr Architects of Georgia is the design firm.
PWX LLC, a subsidiary of Whisinvest Realty of Little Rock, owns Rogers’ land. A CarMax spokeswoman said whether the company will buy or lease the land.
The CarMax is south of a domain where Oklahoma’s Mathis Brothers Furniture national home furnishings store plans to build a $500,000-square-foot warehouse/retail center.
CarMax invests between $10 million and $25 million in each store. Each location has between two hundred and 400 used cars in the box and offers online and in-person shopping. CarMax will also move the bulk of the cars in its inventory to a local store, offering access to more cars than classic car retailers.
In the fiscal year ended February 28, 2022, CarMax (NYSE: KMX) sold approximately 924,000 used cars and 706,000 wholesale cars at auctions. Net income increased 68. 3% to $31. 9 billion.
