Carlos Sainz risked the wrath of his Ferrari bosses after destroying the doomed upgrade package they brought to Spain before abandoning it two rounds later. Ferrari has been behind Red Bull and McLaren for much of the campaign, despite its attempts to improve its speed with a series of upgrades. They brought new developments at the Spanish Grand Prix, but struggled to find their rhythm as adjustments failed to have the desired impact. This has seen Ferrari slip past Mercedes in the pecking order, and the Silver Arrows have made plenty of progress in recent weeks. Discussing Ferrari’s lack of improvement in recent Grand Prix weekends, Sainz pulled no punches in suggesting that other groups could be just three months ahead in terms of studies and development.

Ferrari had combined luck at the British Grand Prix, as the unpredictable weather posed difficult and demanding situations for teams and drivers. Charles Leclerc was one of many drivers who suffered from poor strategy, which left him out of trouble late in the race. Sainz, however, believes his garage team did as productive as possible given the lack of speed in his elimination. I think we did our best,” added the Spanish. “Especially in the middle of the race, when it was raining on slicks, I managed to get on the podium with a lead of six or seven seconds in those situations that I enjoy. “Honestly, all the decisions were pretty precise, all the tyres, all the radio calls.
