Car struggles to locate stock of used cars after virus stop

BILLING, Mount. (Billings Gazette) – In Standard Auto Sales, about 40 to 50 cars invade the countryside, but recently, about 25 were available.

After the previous economic close this year in reaction to COVID-19, car sales soared in Billings through July and August, but as those cars have been sold, there is few new or used stocks to fill the lots.

When COVID-19 spreads, many companies close and new automakers are added.That left a national shortage of new cars that forced many dealerships and car masses to hold on to their used car inventories, which has also hurt independent masses of used cars and vehicle auctions, according to Camilla Haynes, executive director of the Montana Independent Automobile Association.

At Standard Auto, sales were above average in July and August, so fleet owner Jimmy Weinberger had to be artistic with more vehicles.

Many dealer owners place their stock of used cars at auction, at franchise or outdoor dealerships in the state, and Weinberger said he participates daily in replenishing their stock.

Billings’ public car auction has featured between 130 and 140 cars on summer auction day for more than 10 years, but recently, there is a struggle to get 70 to 80 cars, according to auction owner Craig Gould.

“The other thing we’re seeing is that new car outlets maintain their stock of used cars and don’t auction them because they can’t locate used cars for their car lot either,” Gould said.

“It’s hard,” Weinberger said, I go to auction and locate everything I like, then I deny with my head when I get nothing.And it’s every week I do it, just to check and get anything.”

Weinberger is looking for used cars at auction in other states.So far, he’s turned to Arizona for help, and out of the 30 cars he considers, he gets about five for his lot.

In March and April, Weinberger reduced land costs due to the option of a turn-off of the fate of the automotive industry caused by COVID-19.For a few weeks, business was slow, and citizens took refuge there.

But other people temporarily return to car purchases using their stimulus checks and tax refund money.The industry did not give way and Weinberger sold many cars, did not make much profit.

Trying to make a profit

Weinberger said the cars in his assets were sold at retail costs or a little more, but that doesn’t stop other people from buying.

“We even sell Corvettes to trucks. It’s all in all areas,” he said.

Shortage of new cars

Because the plants were shut down a few months earlier this year, the new car market is lagging behind, resulting in a minimisation of the volume of new cars to be released in batches, according to Nolan Fisher, general sales manager for Lithia Chrysler, Jeep Dealership and Dodge at Billings.

“We will simply continue to do what we do and provide a point of service that consumers appreciate and to continue doing business,” Fisher said.
