The famous car driver Ashwin Sundar and his wife Niveditha reportedly died when their BMW car hit a tree on the road and jammed the chimney in Chennai.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m., when the couple were returning from Elliots Beach in Besant Nagar while driving at high speed. The twist of fate occurred in the Pattinapakkam domain on Santhome High Road, NDTV reported.

Ashwin, 27, national champion of elegance LGB F4 in 2012 and 2013. His wife, 26, is a doctor in a personal hospital.

A video of the fiery chimney posted on social media through witnesses who said they were unable to save the couple due to the intense heat of the flames.

The crash could have snapped the fiber fuel line to the engine and caused the fuel, most probably petrol, to spill. Petrol, which has high ignition quality compared to diesel, could eaisly catch fire from the heat of the engine block. Since the car was running, the heat and any engine part is enough to set quick-vapourising petrol on fire unlike diesel which will burn only under high compression.

FMSCI leader Akbar Ebrahim and former Indian F1 driving force Karun Chadhok wrote messages of condolence on Facebook.

Sundar had earned the national name in motorsport and sometimes on two wheels several times. His wife Niveditha is a doctor at a personal hospital in Chennai.
