After the deyet of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, it seemed that the rest of the automotive world deserved to have stopped, folded and neglected. Not only is it as fast as the Tesla Model S Ludicrous Plaid Raven Star Wars Warp Drive Edition P1000000D (or any other call Musk needs to close at the end of the Model S), but it blows up Tesla’s doors when the road turns winding. To be fair, maximum functionality sedans can do this, because the Model S has never been a driver. However, the Taycan can even bring down even top-productivity gasoline sports sedans. So does the BMW M5 Competition have the opportunity?

In this new four-way comparison from Car Magazine, we get to see the M5 Comp take on the Porsche Tacyan Turbo S, the Tesla Model S Raven and the Polestar 1. Of all four cars, the BMW M5 Competition is the only one to be solely powered by internal combustion. The Polestar has a gas engine but one that supplemented by three (!) electric motors and some batteries. The actual specs of these cars are barely worth mentioned, because at this point they all might as well have a million horsepower, but let’s dig in quick.

The least powerful car in the test is the M5 Comp, with its 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. While the Polestar 1 actually has fewer ponies, 601 horsepower, it has far more torque, at 738 lb-ft, which more than makes up for 16 fewer horses. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is next, with 751 horsepower, leaving the 785 horsepower Model S Raven as the most powerful in the bunch.

But we all know that these cars are monstrously powerful. Which car is the most productive to drive? Objectively speaking, this is the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Nothing on earth can stick to a Taycan Turbo S at 10/10 on a winding road. It’s too efficient, too glued to the floor and too fast for it to stick to anything else. However, because Mag chose the BMW M5 Competition as the winner.

That’s right, the dinosaur won, even though it was only faster than the Polar Star. For what? Just because it was the most exciting car to drive. Its thunderous V8 (certainly the maximum of this listening thunder is synthetic), its more balanced handling and its commitment to driving force have made the M5 the winner, surprisingly. It’s a desirable comparison, so even after you meet the winner, you seriously review it.
