Can a new era for an iconic logo also usher in a new Motor Authority winning car to buy?It can, in the form of the Cadillac Lyriq.
Cadillac has been chasing Germans for more than a decade, but with the Lyriq, GM’s luxury logo has regained its position in the automotive world.
The Lyriq is the first mass-market electric vehicle in GM’s Ultium EV powertrain and battery toolkit. With up to 312 miles of diversity for $62,990, the Lyriq is on the verge of feeling undervalued.
(Cadillac said last August that the price of the Lyriq would rise to around $70,000 by the 2024 model year, but the company has since changed course and will reduce or reduce the price, though the features that will be included are still unknown. )
All Lyriqs delivered to date are powered by a 102 kWh battery pack and a single motor that sends 340 hp and 325 hp to the rear wheels. A dual-motor, all-wheel drive Lyriq with 500 hp is coming, no diversity score yet. being released
Cadillac said the Lyriq can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than six seconds and that sounds good, but the two-engine models reduce that time by about two seconds and also allow for a towing capacity of 3500 pounds. The wheel-drive Lyriq is designed to tow the same 3,500 pounds, but requires a spare receiver because Cadillac may not install one.
Weighing in at 5,610 pounds with the single-engine powertrain, the Lyriq is fast enough to get ahead of traffic and the force doesn’t slow down at highway speed. Switching the powertrain from Tour mode to Sport mode doesn’t drastically replace the Lyriq’s personality, and that’s fine because it has to be a luxury cruise ship and not an Autobahn barn.

The Lyriq’s handling is its most productive dynamic quality. With no fuel-hungry air chambers or adaptive surprise shocks, Cadillac achieves a bit of magic with two-tube surprise shock absorbers and five-link front and rear suspensions. The suspension eliminates bumps and imperfections from the road, as well as luxury cars. costing twice as much and with much more suspension technology.
Cadillac gives the Lyriq a 19. 2kW onboard charger, which can withstand up to 52 miles per hour of diversity in a 240-volt Level 2 home charger.
With a fast DC tester, the Lyriq can score up to 190kW, which will charge 76 miles of diversity in about 10 minutes.

The Lyriq also stands out for its style. It literally shines thanks to the 736 LEDs that decorate the exterior. Everywhere you look, the Lyriq shines, from the backlit polycarbonate grille and vertical slot-shaped headlights to the slim LED taillights that wrap around the D-pillars. The exterior is a flourishing rolling design.

The interior is rarely that flashy, but it represents the latest in technology, with a 33-inch curved virtual display carved into the dashboard. It’s not as overwhelming as the 56-inch screen of Mercedes-Benz electric cars with Hyperscreen. , however, is as impressive as a centerpiece. The look is clean, undeniable and futuristic. No switching hardware or switch is shared with other GM products. The Lyriq looks and feels like a luxury vehicle, some hard plastic pieces near the rear of the front console look and feel out of place.
The Cadillac Lyriq isn’t perfect. Although it has a sleek design, it lacks a frunk. It’s not the longest-range electric vehicle or the fastest charging, its 400-volt electric architecture follows current 800-volt systems and the rear-motor styling settles for decent power. The twin-motor style will solve this problem, but it will have less autonomy.
Will the Lyriq’s design, sumptuous interior and well-designed suspension be enough to convince 3 hatchbacks, an outrageous SUV and a sports sedan?Check back on January 4 when we announce the winner, along with the champions of our spouses’ sites, The Car Connection and Green Vehicle Reports.
