Toyota is about to launch the first shared product of its partnership with Suzuki, the high-end Glanza sedan. For all purposes, the Glanza is a lowered Maruti Suzuki Baleno with the same look, specifications and features. Once released, the Glanza will also face the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and the upcoming Tata Altroz. Since the Toyota Glanza launch is planned soon, we compare whether the rebadged sedan is worth the wait or if you deserve to opt for one of its rivals.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno: BUY if the badge is a precedence and availability of a diesel engine
The Baleno has been the leader of the segment for a long time. This high-end tailgate has an attractive price and is well equipped with features such as the infotainment system with 7-inch touch screen, automatic air conditioning, LED headlights for projectors and ISOFIX anchors for children’s seats, among others. It is also the only sedan here that is now available with two 1.2-liter BS6 gas engines, adding a newly brought Dual Jet Dual VTVT comfortable hybrid option with a reported fuel power of 23.87 kmpl. The 1.2-litre petrol engine in the K series is worth 21.4 kmpl. There is also a diesel option at this time, with a reported mileage of 27.39 km/h. All engines come with 5-speed manuals, while the old gasoline engine also has a CVT option.
Baleno and Glanza are almost the same and if the call and badges are not a problem, the Maruti Suzuki tailgate can already be obtained at NEXA dealerships.
Hyundai Elite i20: BUY for and increased safety
This premium sedan is one of Hyundai’s best-selling styles in the country and, having a lower initial value than the Baleno, is a major competitor at the top end. It comes with two internal themes (all black or two-tone), a infotainment system with 7-inch touch screen, rear vents and more features. The Elite i20 is the only style on this list that offers up to six airbags. It also has 3 powertrain options: a petrol manual, a diesel manual and a CVT gasoline automatic. While diesel has a little more torque than the Baleno, the Hyundai is not as fuel efficient.
Honda Jazz: BUY for your space
As a more beloved model, the Honda Jazz doesn’t offer much extra functionality. However, not only is it as spacious as the Glanza/Baleno, but no more, it also has more space for luggage, making it a more convenient circle of family at the tailgate. It still has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment formula with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay like Elite i20, Baleno/Glanza, automatic air conditioning and rear parking camera, among others. Jazz’s largest diesel engine has a claimed mileage similar to that of Baleno diesel, but with more performance. It will also offer an automatic gasoline-CVT option.
Volkswagen Polo: BUY for driver’s car and automatic fuel transmission
The Polo looks old compared to the festival and is the smallest option here. Its rear seats are spacious, but they have features such as cruise control, automatic air conditioning and a touchscreen information and entertainment formula with CarPlay and Android Auto. The 1.0-litre petrol in the Volkswagen Polo is a little malnourished and the 1.5-litre diesel has a lower fuel consumption than the Glanza/Baleno gas. However, it is a larger car by the driving force and the GT TSI variant with automatic gas uses a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG, which is the most productive automatic transmission in the segment.
Tata Altroz: ASSISTANCE and appearance
This high-end sedan made its world debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and is expected to be unveiled in India in mid-2019. The Altroz is competitively priced as they offer gasoline and diesel engines as well as automatic transmission features for both. It was noted in Geneva with an infotainment system with 7-inch floating touch screen, ambient lighting, automatic semi-digital board air conditioning and rear vents. If you’re in no hurry to buy a new sedan, the Altroz might be worth it. The Altroz will also bring a refreshing design to the segment, helping you stand out from the existing harvest of sedans with its crisp appearance.
Toyota Glanza: Attention to the badge
Since Toyota turned out to have replaced only Baleno’s badges, there is no more price for Glanza. It has the same proportions, space, characteristics and interior. It will be offered with Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-liter K-Series BS6 petrol engine with the same manual gearbox and CVT characteristics as the Baleno. While the Glanza is expected to have a higher starting price, it remains to be noted whether Toyota will offer an aggregate price, such as a long guarantee to justify the slight premium over the equivalent variant of the Baleno. Perhaps Toyota hopes to attract consumers to Glanza with the service of delight and peace of mind for which the logo is known.
