Bubba Wallace was a year old. Running for Richard Petty Motorgames, it has temporarily become one of NASCAR’s biggest names. He’s in component because of the season he’s got on the track. The other component is that Wallace has an effect on the game as a whole.
Wallace, the only black driving force in the Cup series, attracted national attention after appearing on television and asking NASCAR to ban the Confederate flag this year. The game heard his plea and acted almost immediately. Soon after, NASCAR ran on Wallace’s track in Talladega, where a team member discovered a loop-shaped rope in his garage. While an FBI investigation later decided that Wallace was not the subject of a hate crime, before the verdict, the game was racked up in a show of drive force unity.
“I think a lot of positive things came out,” Wallace said in an interview with CBS Sports HQ. “You have to faint and meet on and off the race track, especially in this game where the almighty dollar is so crucial.”
At age 26, Wallace began performing on the track, with 4 top 10 career scores in his third full-time season as a NASCAR Cup Series driver. Traditionally, his team, Richard Petty Motorsports, does not win many races. The outstanding No. 43 has only been to Victory Lane once in the more than two decades, when Aric Almirola won at Daytona in 2014.
NASCAR will finish his normal season at Daytona on Saturday and Wallace wants a win to secure a spot in the playoffs. A win would be his first in the Cup Series and is the best time of his career at the 2018 Daytona 500.
“I check to manage my feelings during the race and prepare for the end of the race,” Wallace said in reference to Daytona. “We know what can happen in the race. Shocks, madness, madness, so I have to avoid all this and be okay. I feel like we did, as a team, we did a smart task on this.”
A victory at this point in Wallace’s career can be pivotal. He has a one-year contract and says he has recently loaned off at the table of several teams, adding RPM and Chevrolet’s spouse, Chip Ganassi Racing.
“Honestly, a lot of things are happening here,” Wallace said when asked what points he was contemplating in his quest for a race next season. “I’m a wonderful team guy, a kind of wonderful circle of relatives and if you look at that, RPM provides the avenues and those kinds of descriptions I’m talking about. So there’s a lot to do and be a component of team 43, RPM, being a component of the king and circle of relatives, has been crazy. I can’t, it’s been three years so being in the middle of the contract season and the nonsense season right now, there’s a lot to do. .
“We are in every choice, in everything that is on the table. You know, we have the sponsorship and investment in place. We just want to locate the most productive option so that we can supply that.”
