Start ‘Carrera’ BMW M8 GTE wins podium on Road America

BMW Team RLL finished third in the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar race in Road America.The 24 BMW M8 GTE MOTUL had John Edwards and Jesse Krohn behind the wheel.After spending much of the race in the three most sensitive, Connor De Phillippi and Bruno Spengler finished sixth at No.25 M8 GTE.
The result was partially influenced by a storm that occurred in the last 40 minutes of the competition.The No.24 was vying for first place. But under a rainy deluge on the last lap, Edwards did aquaplaning off the track on the last lap.The No.25 M8 was also unlucky, suffered a mechanical failure in the last era of caution and, however, ended two laps late.
The two beginner pilots, Spengler at No. 25 and Krohn at n.24, received a smart jump on the green flag and temporarily climbed to the third and fourth positions, respectively.On lap 16, Spengler climbed to the position for the moment and only 6.5 moments the leading Porsche.
Krohn continued in fourth place, less than a moment from the third.On lap 21, he passed the BMW M8 No.24 to John Edwards.He never came out of a first-three position in his first stage on Road America, Spengler did.Two laps after his teammate with an hour and forty-eight minutes to play in the competition, Connor De Phillippi took over the wheel of the BMW M8 No.25.
At midpoint, with 38 laps completed, De Phillippi was third, 19.6 seconds the leader, Edward was still in fourth place, 16 seconds his teammate.Auberlen, who had taken over the BMW M6 GT3 No.96 Turner Motorsport on lap 20, raced third in GTD elegance just 3.2 seconds from the leader.
With 42 minutes to go, Mother Nature threw a huge key into the works that brought rain and hail and a red flag to avoid the race.for rain tyres.
The green flag flew with just over seven minutes to pass with Edwards leading the category in the No. 24 M8. On the final lap, the heavy accumulation of water caused the car to hydroplan and roll off the track. Edward made a temporary recovery and recovered a podium result.
In the GTD class, Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley finished seventh with the BMW M6 GT3 No.96 Turner Motorsport.The duo scored their result of the season, third, in the last circular of the third circular at Sebring International Raceway two weeks ago.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8. R No.3 through Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor won the GTLM race.
The fifth IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar 2020 championship will take place at VIRginia International Raceway on August 22.
