BMW DTM groups prepare for consecutive weekends at Lausitzring

The Lausitzring in Germany’s Lausitz region hosts the time of the DTM season this weekend (14-16 August) and then, a week later (21-23 August), the 3rd will be on the same circuit.

This exclusive track has undergone a number of adjustments throughout its 20-year history, adding the creation of the additional 3.4 km (2.9 miles) board circuit in 2005, which allowed the DTM to traverse two other track variants. For this reason, the two racing weekends will be played in other configurations, which will make the races much more entertaining for fans and more stimulating for drivers.

“The Lausitzring features the first double header of the 2020 DTM season. Two other routes await us, with the mix of the board circuit the first weekend and the longest variant the weekend of the moment,” said Jens Marquardt, Director of BMW Group Motorsport. “It will be a desirable challenge, as we’ve never noticed before in the DTM. After the season opens at Spa-Francorchamps, which we did not meet our expectations, we are now on the hunt for the next races. We have analyzed the disorders and are working hard to improve our overall offering. We have noticed at Spa-Francorchamps that we are very well located in terms of reliability and more sensitive speed. Now we want to boost overall speed, both in qualifying and race distance. We’ll do our best to turn our BMW M4 DTM’s perspective into smart results. We start from scratch at Lausitzring and our purpose is to turn the page.

This weekend, BMW drivers will hit the track with their BMW M4 DTM on the new board circuit. The 3rd will be positioned the following weekend in the 4.5 km longest variant.

The driving force of the BMW DTM Philipp Eng holds the lap record of 1: 37,897 minutes for this longest track.

Between the two racing weekends, BMW Team RBM and BMW Team RMG will remain at Lausitzring. They will take out the revisions of the BMW M4 DTM, which are required after the event, on the site.
