This morning, BMW announced a partnership with Fiat and Alfa Romeo. The 3 corporations will paint in combination on the progression of parts and systems, as well as a non-unusual platform for the Mini Cooper, the Mi.To of Alfa Romeo and the Great Point of Fiat. The Point and Mini are expected to launch in early 2010.
BMW logo development chief Friedrich Eichiner said: “Lately we are discussing with the Fiat Group the probabilities of parts and joint systems in Mini and Alfa Romeo vehicles.”
Fiat and BMW are also making plans to expand new gasoline and diesel engines, Fiat already has partnerships with other automakers, adding PSA/Peugeot-Citroon, Suzuki and Tata. BMW is already cooperating with French company PSA on engine progression for the Mini and soon for the BMW 1 Series.
One of the main reasons why so many car brands cooperate with their competition is the need for investment prices for new models.
In addition, BMW will launch Alfa Romeo in North America. “American mini dealers would also have the opportunity to sell Alfa Romeo cars,” a Fiat spokesman told Automotive News Europe today. Alfa Romeo plans to return to the United States in 2010.
Interesting about BMW? Absolutely!
