Bexar County Deputy and Fiancée Die in San Patricio County Crash

A Bexar County deputy and his fiancée were killed in a two-vehicle accident in St. Patrick’s County on Wednesday, he said.

In a Facebook post, San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera said the turn of fate occurred on TX-188 and on Highway 796 from farm to market, between Sinton and Mathis.

The message includes footage of a crashed Toyota pickup truck and a tanker truck.

“It looks like a tanker truck probably hadn’t given in (and) collided with the victims,” Rivera said in the message. “The deputy’s brother flew to a local hospital.”

A Texas Department of Public Safety press release said the driving force and passenger were dressed in seat belts and were ejected.

Rivera included screenshots of an email identifying the officer as Noah Calderon, 20. Calderon, his fiancée and younger brother were on their way to Corpus Christi. His fiancée was killed and Calderon died later, the email said.

The Texas DPS knew Calderon’s fiancée as Samantha Grace Handy, 21.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
