A railway bearing remanufacturing company in New South Wales, operating since 1991, has been acquired through the British logistics and transport company Unipart.
Schaeffler Rail Bearings was founded in Sydney more than 30 years ago as Bearing Engineering Services, before being acquired through Schaeffler in 2005.
Unipart has been active in the Australian rail sector since 2005 and ownership of Schaeffler Rail Bearings will now be transferred to Unipart Australia.
Unipart chief executive Darren Leigh says the expansion of Australia’s rail network aligns with the overseas organisation’s preference to expand its rail opportunities.
“The rail sector is a key expansion and livelihood for Unipart and we are excited to expand our capabilities in Australia,” Leigh says.
“We welcome our new team members to Unipart and are excited to offer our consumers a wide variety of solutions and performance improvements.
The acquisition maintains the site’s trained equipment, amenities and tools for the reconditioning and overhaul of railway bearings, ensuring continuity of service for the MRO of critical bogie bearings.
Mark Carling, CEO of Unipart Rail Australia, says the acquisition of the Australian company will replace the service Unipart offers to its consumers in the region.
“Although we have had curtain supply, consultancy and generation in Australia for a few years, we have used the capabilities of our United Kingdom-based maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) functions to serve our Australian customers,” says Carling.
“With this acquisition, we have now expanded our local capabilities to provide our consumers with a local and responsive MRO service. ”
“While we ensure we adequately service our customers, we will work with the new team to bring Unipart’s features and culture to the business with additional functionality and pricing for our customers, as well as implementing plans to supply an expanded offering. diversity of facilities to the Australian railway industry.
The acquisition was completed on August 12.
