ASU Police Department receives funding for zero-emission motorcycles

PHOENIX – Members of the ASU Police Department will soon have two more zero-emission electric motorcycles, according to a university statement.

The branch announced Friday that it earned $46,871. 08 from Arizona’s road safety governor. The plan is to use cash to purchase two DSR Zero Motorcycles electric models, according to the statement.

The grant is the time the police won to buy electric motorcycles, as it bought a DSR style from Zero Motorcycles in 2019.

The Governor’s Office for Road Safety has awarded grants for electric motorcycles to Goodyear Police, ASR and Pima Community College.

ASU police commander John Thompson believes he acquired the university’s police branch to conduct operations on the Tempe campus in a more sustainable manner.

“Zeroes are an ideal means of transportation for our agents to navigate our busy campuses and giant crowd events,” Thompson said in the statement. “Electric motors also allow us to move around campus without generating fuel emissions or engine noise. “

Zero DSR electric motorcycles have a more responsive speed of 102 mph and a diversity of 176 miles, according to the Zero Motorcycles website.

The company promotes motorcycles as ideal for the forces of order given the acceleration and lack of gear shifting required by electric models.

Thompson said decomposition believes new motorcycles are a component of ASU’s innovation and sustainability mission.

“We are pleased to see our use of electric motorcycles grow,” Thompson said. “We are part of the highest cutting-edge school in the country and are proud to make our component to innovate in our field. “

Zero Motorcycles is an all-electric motorcycle manufacturer founded through former NASA engineer Neal Saiki in 2006, according to the company’s website.
