Aston Martin’s new SUV will be called Varekai

The immediate speed at which SUVs and vans continue to grow in popularity (both categories accounted for 68% of Canadian sales last year) meant that, faster afterwards, even exotic car manufacturers would embark on this very lucrative action.

Of course, we break with traditions that go back decades and even, in some cases, centuries. But once a manufacturer took the plunge, it became clear that others would follow.

Today, Bentley has his SUV, as does Lamborghini and Maserati. Models are also being prepared for Rolls-Royce and Ferrari. As for the British manufacturer Aston Martin, we know that since 2015, it has been using its own SUV model. That year, in Geneva, he introduced a new concept of vehicle with the logo, the DBX.

Three years later, it is reported that the corporation has selected a call for its new application model: Varekai. The news was first reported via the British online page Autocar, which revealed that Aston Martin had submitted the mandatory documents to sign the call. However, the corporate has not yet made the news. For its part, the online magazine Autoblog noted that the word “varekai”, taken from the Romanian language, translates as “everywhere”, an appropriate description for a gaming application vehicle. Of course, actually, we shouldn’t expect to see many of those stylish, high-performance SUVs venturing too far from the road.

Another clue that the call is intended for the new SUV: it would have good compatibility with all those other Aston Martin models with calls starting with “V”, such as Vanquish, Vantage and Valkyrie.

Aston Martin’s concept vehicle was called DBX, a call that actually resonated with brand enthusiasts. But opting for a call instead of a series of cards will create a more herbal arrangement with potential rivals, who also have well-defined calls: Bentayga (Bentley), Levante (Maserati), Cullinan (Rolls-Royce) and Urus (Lamborghini).

Names aside, which will probably matter much more to potential owners when the Varekai comes to market, will be the functionality of its 5.2 L V12 engine (600 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque). Also used on the DB11, this engine block will be the maximum rugged proposed with the new model. Consumers will also have the option of a Twin-Engine Mercedes-AMG V8 (502 horsepower and 498 pound-feet of torque), as well as a hybrid edition. This last edition will not be available until the other two.
