Truth be told, I was a bit disappointed when Aston Martin revealed the DB12 last year. For the first substantially new car put under the watchful eye and generous wallet of Canadian billionaire Lawrence, wandering around to be a lifted DB11 seemed a bit disappointing. As it turned out, the DB12 was a monumental leap from the old car, fixing the parts that didn’t work (mainly the inside of the cabin) and gradually improving everything else. So when the new Vantage’s covers were unveiled earlier this year, all the symptoms pointed to another great Aston.
It is true that it is a prettier view than the previous one. It is true that I never challenged the taste of the 2018 car and discovered it much greater than the DB11 Fumpy, but I perceive why other people discovered the rack as a touch. The Lift 2020 has taken a step forward with a more traditional mouth, although what Aston has presented for the most recent edition is much more consistent. It gives more or less the same silhouette as the old car and the main points, such as duck braking lighting and diffuser remains largely unchanged. But the larger headlight accessories, reproduced wing vents and an escape quartet that are carried out despite everything in proportion to the rest of the rear, all give a hiring to a look as demanding as elegant. If the new Vanquish has undoubtedly overcome it as the maximum charming genre in the existing range, the advantage executes it closely.
Fortunately, Aston was much more ruthless with the interior. There was simply nothing worth saving inside the 2018 car, because there was a lot of unnecessary grain, infuriating generation, and a downright ugly design that just wasn’t up to par. Now, as you may have understood, there is a much more sublime center console with enough control apparatus (which requires physical effort to turn it on), beautiful rotary dials and a touch screen that will not make you want to break the object. In anger (even if you want to close your eyes a little). But above all, every square inch of leather, trim and control devices are now top-notch; That is to say, the type of quality expected from a logo like Aston Martin.
As good as that all sounds, I haven’t landed on the Vantage as my favourite car of the year because of a simple nip and tuck. Not exclusively, anyway. See, supercars these days are so approachable that they lull you into a false sense of driver skill. Get intentionally heavy-handed with the right pedal and an electronic aid will help you style it out as a controlled skid, leaving you none the wiser about how close you came to wrapping your new toy around a tree. Of course, the Vantage has all of these things, but it’s the first car I’ve driven in a long time where it seems the systems intervene only when they think you’ve properly overcooked it.
It’s as simple to say as it is to do, especially with all the adjustments that have been made to the AMG-sourced V8. The company has thoroughly revised the 4. 0-liter twin-turbo “hot V” engine, modifying the cams, enlarging the turbos, cooling and adjusting the compression ratio in the process. The result is an astonishing 665 HP, or in other words, 30% more power than the previous version. Aston says it’s the biggest power jump between generations in its history, and it likes to remind it by introducing 590 lb-ft of torque from 2,000 rpm and lighting up the rear axle.
A film of the right palette for the second, the third, on the front and back is totablely, locating his feet only in a soggy Wales country when you call the fifth. And it’s in the default game mode. Turn the delightfully weighted dial under the center screen for gaming and track, and you’ll notice that the latter is the position where you have access to nine other traction modes to give you just the right amount of the right amount of AnglearRay, this will go awry even on the forgiving maximum setting, though, once you’ve put yourself on the torque delivery and sense when the rear end is maxed out, it will probably break, you start noticing Vantage’s new character.
Whereas the old car was very much a GT with a playful edge, the new model feels more focused and agile. The steering, while not as hyper-responsive as a Ferrari Roma’s, reacts more eagerly and feels weightier than before. Drop a couple of gears on the approach to a corner, tuck the nose in and the Vantage rotates beautifully around its centre point, with a small kick from the rear as you power out. Whacking the suspension into its firmest setting doesn’t annihilate the ride quality, partly because the Vantage is on the stiff side anyway, and irons out the slightest hint of body roll when the dampers are set to soft. You need to wrestle it a bit to really get the most from the chassis, which is all the more rewarding when you know that it’s (mostly) you, and not a nannying computer, that’s scything from corner to corner. Or at least it feels that way. Which is entirely the point.
Naturally, the variety is not completely without its flaws. For example, this is a very important improvement compared to its predecessor, but the new infotainment formula may still be slow to respond to the inputs. This applies to other electrical architectures as well: an undeniable rotation of the dial would deserve to be enough to replace the driving modes, but if you turn it twice to go from game to track, the formula only registers one input. And you have to wait for the Sport to start before turning again. Our control car has also failed to recognize the key fob several times. And on one occasion I went to open the cap of the gas tank, only for it to ignite inwards and not come out as it deserves. It turns out that it was an old-style challenge that was sadly not corrected by the new one.
Of course, that’s the wonderful thing about PH’s favorite car of the year: we’re not looking for the most productive of 2024’s most productive (although the Vantage is indeed one of them), it’s just about the cars that have made a way under your skin and I’ve set up shop there. That’s why I chose the Vantage, because a short descent down a winding road, roaring V8 (and boy, does it sound clever here) and spinning rear wheels, remind you of a time when supercars with almost 700bhp demanded your full attention. . keep pointing in the right direction. Admittedly, it’s a little more expensive at £165,000, so you can comfortably get a lightly used DBS or even a V12 Vantage, however, the company has made such progress in recent years that its old thugs now seem replaced by comparison. Array For years, Aston has sought to be noticed as the British Ferrari; along with the new Vanquish, the new Vantage makes that aspiration reasonable.

A little obvious, is it rarely? I have had the possibility to spend a little time with the new Toyota G yaris for more than 12 months, adding a car trip on an ice lake near the company’s WRC team headquarters in Finland and an explosion in a Old level of Monte Carlo in Monte Carlo to the south of France, almost every and every minute, my inner rally driver was channeled. The car is based on what caused the original to be much more, while solving the upper driving position and the messy board. All are notable innovations about the old style, as is the strongest suspension, which now has the type of granulated texture that the original lacks. That said, although it feels more planted than ever, I prefer the configuration slightly softer in the old car, since I breathed with the road undulations that follow them religiously like any other Hatcharray hot and I liked the old value of £ 30,000 ( or £ 33,000 for the circuit package), because the new style is the whopping of £ 44,250. That does not mean that it is not brilliant, because in fact it is, it only remains that “OMG I have to have this now” that made the original a sales success.
